Having just graduated from college, I felt a little lost, it was like being in limbo. I left the life of a student, where my only responsibility was my studies, where I spent all my days among friends without any major concern.
The Faculty was my second home. After graduating, I left the residence and returned home.
I wanted to work in the field, but I didn't know how to start looking for a job in that area. That meant traveling to other states in the country. I imagined myself on a farm, growing coffee or cocoa, which were my favorite crops. But destiny took me in a different direction.
Through my father, I got a job opportunity at a university. He had a good friend there who talked to the Director of the Agricultural Research Center, and they called me for an interview.
I excitedly told my two best friends that there was a job opportunity at that University and that I was going for an interview.
"What great news! We still haven't found a job yet. We can also apply for a job there, and the three of us will be there together. What do you think?"
"That would be great!; the three of us would be working together, I replied. We should call to ask if there are any more vacancies".
And it turned out that there were, and the three of us went to the interview on the same day.
The place was beautiful, reached through a winding road that passed near a dam in a wooded area. We arrived at the building, which was built on a plain. It was foggy and cold. I don't know if nerves increased that effect, but I was shivering.
We were taken to a room, where the three of us waited nervously to be called for our interview with the Director. We already knew him as a reference since he had been the dean of the faculty where we had graduated.
To our surprise, the three of us were called at the same time, and we entered the office. It was very spacious and lighted, with a large central meeting table where he was waiting for us to sit.
"Good morning, young people! Come in and sit down". His voice was jovial, even though he was in his 70s.
We approached and sat next to each other, and he was in front of us. The first thing he asked us was our name and why we wanted to work there.
"Their names start with the letter M. I will call them the three Maria's", and he started asking us questions about our careers. It seemed like we were in a general exam. It was not what we expected. He looked like he was having fun.
"Let's see which one of you can draw me the structure of chlorophyll", he said as he stared at the three of us behind his glasses.
I was waiting for one of my friends to raise her hand.
That happened to me very often; I felt insecure about answering even when I knew the answer. There was an awkward silence, and so as not to look bad, I raised my hand.
"I draw it".
He handed me the marker, and I went to the board.
I drew the picture of the chemical structure with all its symbols. I really liked biochemistry, and chlorophyll, which is the green molecule of plants that allows photosynthesis, without which life would not be possible, could not have been forgotten.
"And can you tell me what the difference is between chlorophyll and the hemoglobin of the blood ?"
That was the question I was waiting for because, since I learned about the difference, I found it very interesting.
Only the exchange of a magnesium atom for an iron atom was the only difference between the green of plants and the red blood of animals. It turns out that we are not so different.
There, we continued for a while longer. We were given water and coffee. We had lost our nerves a bit, and the Director told us about a project to build the nucleus of the University in a state in the plains. He needed personnel to organize this nucleus, starting with finding a place to build it. And for this, we had to meet with the associations of agricultural producers in the region who would help us.
That was our first assignment and of course we took the job.
In that first year of our first responsibility as professionals, my friends and I were happy to continue together. It was an experience that left us with many lessons learned. We worked as a team and even when we encountered some inconveniences and obstacles to achieve what we were entrusted with.
One of these obstacles was that we had a very different point of view from the person who had the coordination of that nucleus. He was a man with a lot of experience but he made decisions without considering us and rather limited us.
I believe that the Director thought that as young people, recent graduates, we had all the desire to work, the enthusiasm and the desire to achieve results in a short time and that could be a great strength combined with experience.
However, we were not able to advance and in time we were assigned to other experimental centers located in different parts of the country, and we were separated. I regret not continuing with my friends, it was very nice to work with them, since we knew each other very well, but that's life, and each one of us took a different path. I learned to be alone, to trust myself and to make my own decisions.

¿ENTREVISTA O EXAMEN?
Nosotras todavía no hemos conseguido trabajo.
