I finished another edition of the Weekend Event. Although the results, again, were not what I had hoped for, I am still working my way towards competing more efficiently. This time I managed to place again in Mythic just before the weekend, which is a step up from the slump between Ethereal Diamon and Solar Gold that I had fallen into in the past few weeks.

A lot of credit for this climb towards Mythic goes to the modifications I made to my deck. Following kstreet@kstreet's advice, I avoided having only one copy of the cards, leaving only the legendary Watchtower of Agrodor and Bronze Servant (which just before Weekend Event I replaced with Nefarious Briar) as exceptions.

The card modifications consisted of removing Low Hanging Fruit (x2), Moonlight Charm, Overgrown Rhino, Jaguar Staff (I have something to say about this one in the next paragraphs), Giant Pangolin and Enchanted Vines, and adding Pyreshell Beetle (x2), which turned out to be a very efficient creature at a very low mana cost; Staff of Roots (x2), also very useful, especially for the passive effect that allows you to summon a Walking Plant, which in turn gives four health to our God as an afterlife effect, an excellent recommendation given by meltysquid@meltysquid in my last report; Bladefly, one more to have two, just like with Valewarden Minotaur and The Hunt.

Well, although before the Weekend Event I did relatively well, once it started everything went downhill. Although, perhaps as an excuse, I have to mention that I lost four games due to electrical service failures that didn't let me finish them (third world stuff). Anyway, one thing that became clear to me, so much so that it is the title of this text, is that I need more blitz. Keeping your opponent's creatures at bay gives you, to some extent, control of a game. At times I noticed this with Staff of Roots, and I regretted removing Jaguar Staff from my deck.

I'm now considering adding another Jaguar Staff to my collection and adding it to my deck, replacing Munosian Infiltrator or Wild Hog. I also plan to test the efficiency of Staff of Roots over Faeflame Blade, which, from what I've seen by digging through GUDecks the latter is, surprisingly for me, the most popular.

I am aware that new Core cards with never-before-seen abilities will be added soon. However, I presume that this is still several weeks away. On the other hand, I am confident that for the next Weekend Event I will get better results. I'm already on my way to Mythic again, and with the necessary changes I'll be able to overcome this week's disastrous 9/25.
