Why are some many people in the World cutting out their cable/satellite TV providers and moving onto streaming services? There is no one correct answer to this question, there are many! First, why do many people have cable or satellite TV? People have this service to be informed about what is happening in today’s world, and to be entertained. What if we could be totally informed or entertained online? I think without news people would be getting to far into conspiracy theories. Who knows, not having TV could cause anarchy, more violent protesting, civil wars, etc. We will never know, we have the luxury of being a couch potato to either get informed or have a good laugh. Before I talk about cutting the cord, I will tell you why people choose satellite over cable. For example with cable, the problem is that there is a cable line underground running to every house in the city. That cable line not only sends out cable, also internet and phone, all while being sent to all your neighbors too. What does that mean for the consumer you ask? When you have cable, internet, and a phone connected in your house, the cable company cut your signal down into different percentages, that way they are still using the same power and aren't losing money while your losing al the power. Here is how those percentages function, they will send 60% of your signal to TV, 20% to your internet, and 20% to your phone. This is why you may experience pixelation, or tiling on your TV, slow internet speeds, and possibly dropped calls. Another huge issue with cable is that the company has to compress their signal in order to send it along the cable causing you to only receive 480p-720p which is standard definition TV. In today’s world with 4k, cable is a complete waste of money. Your paying you entire bill to your cable company and only receiving half your service. In my eyes, that is almost as bad as bigotry. To top it all off they convince you to get into a 2 year contract, which keeps you locked into whatever channels you have, you can’t change any of the channels you currently have, once that contract is up, they usually increase your bill by 10-20% just to start. For example, I have ATT U-verse; When I started my 2 year contract with them I was paying $120 a month for the U-300 package and 18mbps Internet. When my contract was up I was suddenly paying $180 a month with no warning. Now, I am paying an outrageous $220 dollars a month and I was forced to downgrade my package. Who would ever put that on theirselves knowing that was going to happen? Certainly not me which is exactly why I cancelled my TV service, sticking with just internet. Now before we cut the cord, I want to talk about satellite TV. Satellite is great and delivers 4k resolution. The only downside to satellite is weather. When it starts heavily raining, don't go sit on the couch and try watching TV, you will be disappointed. If you have anything recording while its raining, guess what? It doesn't record! So finally we have cut the cord. I will now explain why SOOO many people have decided to get rid of cable/satellite and stick to streaming. To begin, its super easy to navigate, and your wallet gets a lot more fat each month. In this day and age, almost every household has an internet connection, a TV, a computer, a game console, and possibly something such as Google Chromecast, or Amazon Fire TV. With all of this readily available, who needs cable/satellite? Streaming is great, by reason of creating an account on the service you want to use, I use Kodi (no fees) and stream from the web, and you get to watch your TV and movies where you want, when you want, and even on what you want, including on your phone. On the grounds of streaming, people don't have to feel locked down to a certain TV schedule. You now have the freedom to watch their show at 4am on the toilet, if thats what your into. So many options for TV entertainment, streaming is mine haven't had cable for the past 5 years and still going strong. Hope this gives some insight for people thinking about cutting the cord and getting out from under the thumb of the Satellite and Cable companies.
