Hello beautiful people of the internet, I hope you had a good week, especially a nice San Valentine's Day, no matter if you spent it with someone or not.

If there is a work that transmits me love and beauty at a sublime level, are those inspired by the love story of Eros and Psyche, they are a couple of Greek mythology and have a beautiful story, and it is inevitable that I do not feel attracted and inspired by it as the inveterate romantic that I am.

This story has several representations in art, both in sculptures and paintings, and in different ages of the protagonists, but one of my favorites is their child version, it fills me with tenderness and innocence. Here I show you my source of inspiration:

Process:

First I made the sketch on a small sheet of paper and with the help of a charcoal paper, I transferred it to the drawing pad that I usually use to paint with watercolors so that it would be a cleaner and faster process.

Since this is a drawing based on a sculpture, I wanted both bodies to have warm shades, and also because of the Valentine's Day theme, I tried to use pink and orange tones more than anything else.

The first layers of color were focused on the volume areas of the bodies and also on the main shadows, so, layer by layer I create nice shades and I don't saturate the drawing with too much color.

It's not a big drawing, so I didn't have to make long pauses to wait for the watercolor to dry, so the process was relatively fast and entertaining, well, watercolors always relax me, it's a material I really enjoy working with.

I added a sort of wall of leaves as a background for the drawing and once it was dry I would add some small flowers to occupy a little more space. While waiting for the background to dry, I decided to paint a few roses in the lower area of the drawing and later I would add the title of this work.

The Lovers. Maybe you can relate it to the tarot card also called like this, or to the work of Renné Magritté, whatever it is, they all have a little relation with respect to their symbolism: relationships, care, values and pure feelings.

I definitely wanted to share this drawing with you on Valentine's Day, but I haven't been able to finish it until today, even so it is inspired by this date and the week is not over yet, so I hope you enjoyed watching the process and my experience to recreate this nice and delicate drawing.

The Lovers.
