We are all fragile beings, our egos at the core are delicate, breakable. Our harden exteriors put on a brave face everyday to face the world and all it's challenges.
We build an image, a mask that we project into the world. It is our ideal self and we control the facade. We do what we have to...to survive, to get by and to better our position. We appear unbreakable.
Those who see us break... are those who are the closet to us. We open ourselves up to them and they to us. We are mirrors, reflecting ourselves perfectly back to one another.
Then the shimmer and the reflection shines a little less bright, we start to see the cracks.
Our inner core begins to be revealed. That is when we reach a point of desperation. We must put up a barrier, we must patch up that wound, we must not let them see that deep.
Our only protection is to throw up a lie, 'yes, I'm okay', 'nothing is wrong'. We can't be fragile, if we are fragile they lose our support, they see weakness and they will fall away with the rest of them.
We throw up a wall, the greatest wall of them all. We lie. We lie to protect ourselves in moments of fragility, we lie to hide the cracks in our mirror, we lie so we are not defeated by life.
But as we lie, we cheat. We cheat ourselves out of the opportunity to mend the cracks, to become whole again, to drop the ego and to remove the facade. We cheat ourselves out of ourself. We lose the ability for authentic love, to ourselves and to others.
That is the anatomy of a lie.
