Hello Hive

It was finally our Thanksgiving day at church and every unit is meant to dress in some lovely matching attire. This is a cultural event that takes place every year where we all gather together as a church to appreciate God for preserving our lives, for blessing our members with the fruit of the womb, for fruitfulness, progress in business and every good things that God has done for us. The Psalmist urge us to give thanks unto the lord and it is quite a glorious thing to do so as a church and as one family.

Each unit and department in church often love to appear in a matching attire hence our choir has chosen this African print for her own uniform.

They also got some design inspiration from the internet about how the ladies and gentlemen are to sew their outfits. We are to sew a flair dress and a matching hair gear.

Thank goodness I have earlier learnt how to cut a flair skirt for another friend earlier who decided to use her own fabric to sew a long flair skirt.

I started with cutting the upper part of my dress and their linings here and then the lower flair. I used the same manner of folding to cut my own flair too

The collar gave me a bit of a hard time to cut as I never did learnt how to cut and design proper collar. I just do a trial and error method to ensure that I sew something around the neck that will sit well like a perfect collar

Here is how I was able to achieve the collar stand and the lace materials I had used to cut a Peter pan collar here.

After this I began to join the outfit piece by piece, I didn't have the patience to take the sewing process pictures as I made this dress on a Saturday night in readiness for service on a Sunday morning.

It was another sleepless night for me as I struggled to fix the collar, zipper and to get the dress to become a whole piece.

The one that hurt the most was after I was able to fix the not to perfect collar my hot iron still burnt a piece of it while I was ironing the piece. You can see the burnt piece right over there.

After everything I was able to cut and sew a Thanksgiving Dress for myself in one night to be able to celebrate with the other.
We did take a live photo section with our pastor in the house and all the beautiful people of my unit in church.
