Dancing House in Prague - coffee with a view over Prague City

Hello travelers,

Few weeks ago I've been in Prague and last place I've got to see was Dancing House building (Tančící dům)

We almost missed it at the time but after arriving here me and my friends were more than happy spending a few moments here. Because after two days in Prague, always on the run from one place to another, I feel we needed this quit moment to enjoy a coffee and having a throwback on all places we saw in Prague and all funny moments we lived here.

Dancing House building is also called Fred and Ginger, after the dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers – the house resembles a pair of dancers).

I think this nickname is cute and funny!

This modern building designed in 1996 is located in New Town. The truth is that there arent many attractions around but I think its worth visiting if you have time.

The "Dancing House" is set on a property of great historical significance. Its site was the location of a house destroyed by the U.S. bombing of Prague in 1945. The plot and structure lay decrepit until 1960, when the area was cleared.

I've read about this fascinating building just after we got here and honestly, I can't write about it with my own words, so I'll include what I thought being interesting for your too, about the building.

Structure

The style is known as deconstructivist ("new-baroque" to the designers) architecture due to its unusual shape. The "dancing" shape is supported by 99 concrete panels, each a different shape and dimension. On the top of the building is a large twisted structure of metal nicknamed Mary.

In the middle of a square of buildings from the eighteenth and nineteenth century, the Dancing House has two main parts. The first is a glass tower that narrows at half its height and is supported by curved pillars; the second runs parallel to the river and is characterized by undulating mouldings and unaligned windows.

After getting the tram and arrived here, I was super impressed and excited about the building. My friend came with the idea of visiting it. At first I didnt think that this is something to enjoy but the more I've read about it (in the tram), the more curious I was.

The tram took us exactly a few steps away from the building. By the way, Prague has an exceptional public traffic structure. No need to drive your car in here. You'll save time, money and even get to be more relaxed and comfortable not having to drive in the city. We got one 24-hours ticket, costing 5€ and we were able using it on bus, tram or subway! Its so much worth it!

The interior is nice! At first there is a lobby and the staff here were super nice, coming with indications for the tourists.
Inside the building there are office spaces, a restaurant on last floor and I think there are hotel rooms as well.

Overall, I think Dancing House has an interesting architecture worth visiting.

The Czech-British architect, Eva Jiřičná, designed most of the interior. The building is 9 floors tall and consists of two floors underground. The layout of each of the floors varies due to the asymmetric shape of the building, causing the rooms inside to also be asymmetric. The commercial areas of the building are in the lobby and the first floor. The six floors above are used primarily as office spaces. The ninth floor housed a restaurant.

Our relax time was sitting down and enjoying a coffee and hot chocolate in the morning at the bar(caffee) located 9th floor.
The interior was nicely decorated in Christmas mood, very cute and stylish.

I really loved having a relax time here, enjoying some music on background and serve a hot chocolate with my love and our friends. I got a coffee at the hotel already, so a hot chocolate was just what I needed.

Also on top there is a beautiful overview of the town with an external terrace, coming off the bar.

You'll have the option to pay for getting on the terrace and enjoy the view or consuming from the bar.
I think second option is more valid, but may not be for everyone.

Outside, on the terrace, is not a super big space but its enough to make some photos, chillin or whatever. Therr are tables where you can serve your coffee (with a view).

There were Christmas decorations as well.

The great view is over the Prague city, Praga Castle and Vlatva River. I imagine its gorgeous on sunset.
