Van der Vaart spent two seasons at Tottenham, scoring 24 goals in 63 Premier League games, after joining from Tuesday's opponents Real Madrid on deadline day in August 2010.

Half-and-half scarf at Leicester-West Brom bosses begs question: why?

The half-and-half scarf is truly a curious beast.
To some, it's simply a memento of a particular fixture; to others, it serves as the manifestation of all that is wrong with modern football: the transient loyalties, the rampant commercialism, etc.
Just when you thought you'd seen football merchandise reach its nadir, Monday night's Premier League clash between Leicester City and West Brom coughed up a curious evolution of the game's most derided souvenir.
Presenting, the managerial half-and-halfer.
Taking half-and-half scarves to a whole new level. The game's gone.

Which Premier League clubs value style over substance?

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool could never play with a style similar to what Man United displayed at Anfield.
After Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said the defensive approach Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho adopted at Anfield in Saturday's 0-0 draw would not be tolerated at his club, it got us wondering which teams do value style over substance?
Clearly winning is important, but ESPN FC's club correspondents report that most of their clubs (including Man United) want to showcase some style on the way to success. So is style important?
MAN CITY: YES

Jurgen Klopp shrugs off claims that he'll significantly rotate his Liverpool squad for Tuesday's UCL clash at Maribor.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is hopeful that Adam Lallana remains on course for a return to action in November.
Lallana took the next step in his rehabilitation from a thigh injury by reporting back to Melwood on Monday after spending time in Qatar as part of his recovery process.
The England international, who was on crutches at one stage, has missed all of the season so far, but is in line to make a comeback next month.

Premier League title race with Man City, Man United a study in contrasts

With Man City on a tear in the Premier League, Craig Burley analyses their form compared to the chasing pack.
With Man City on a tear in the Premier League, Craig Burley analyses their form compared to the chasing pack.
They do things differently in Manchester. City and United are two clubs working toward different directions, and their methods are so distinct that they are almost polar opposites.
On one side of town, City are playing with a joyful, sweeping brilliance. They have turned the Etihad into a temple of entertainment. A handful of miles away at Old Trafford, United are built around power and mean-eyed pragmatism with few frills in their approach. What the neighbours have in common, however, is that...

Ben Foster's injury an 'enormous worry' for West Brom - Tony Pulis

After missing a golden chance, Riyad Mahrez made amends to earn Leicester a share of the points against West Brom.
Ben Foster aggravated a knee injury while playing with his children, West Brom coach Tony Pulis said.
West Brom coach Tony Pulis revealed a knee injury kept Ben Foster out of Monday night's 1-1 draw at Leicester.
Albion have yet to determine the extent of the injury, which the 34-year-old goalkeeper sustained during the international break while playing in the garden with his children.
However, Pulis admitted he is worried about the problem given Foster missed 10 months in the 2015-16 season with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Antonio Conte can't escape blame for Chelsea's uneven title defence

The FC panel assess what Antonio Conte and Chelsea need to correct in order to avoid another shock defeat.
The 2016-17 season is barely two months old, but for Chelsea it has already been a roller coaster.
The opening-day home defeat to Burnley, the defensive win at Tottenham, the drab draw with Arsenal, the imposing victory at Atletico Madrid, the comprehensive loss to table-topping Manchester City, the reverse to previously pointless and goalless Crystal Palace. The seemingly erratic nature of these results and performances has seen expectations either soar or dip at almost every juncture.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 'in my mind' for first Liverpool start - Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp shrugs off claims that he'll significantly rotate his Liverpool squad for Tuesday's UCL clash at Maribor.
Liverpool's deadline-day signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be in line for his first Champions League start for the club after impressing manager Jurgen Klopp.
The England international has featured in eight matches since his £35million arrival from Arsenal but has made only one start, failing to impress in the Carabao Cup exit at Leicester.
