St Andrew is the saint-patron of Gorizia, a city in eastern Italy, right on the border with Slovenia. Every year, on the first weekend in December (before St Nicholas' Day), St Andre's Fair is organized in Gorizia. This is an event not to be missed. Although the event is organized every year, it always attracts many people to the streets and the town sparkles with enthusiasm.
This year, more than 200 stalls and 61 different carousels were registered, but not everything went as planned. Unfortunately, the event was spoilt by heavy rain, so I was unfortunately unable to attend the fair, which was only for the weekend. The carousels, however, stayed in town for a whole week, and the weather also improved.
I couldn’t miss the event and on Wednesday 😉 I went for an evening walk to enjoy the vivid carousels. The event was colourful and fun, and the full moon tried to light up the city even more (but there were thick clouds partying over it).
Carousels, colourful wending booths and booths with games, thrilled rides, a house of horror, a house of mirrors, cars crashing on a closed platform,... You can see some of the scenes in the photos below.
The city was full of colours, sounds, conversations, haggling, pleasant tastes. But what sticks in my mind the most is the mix of different smells of cheeses, salami, roasted almonds, sweets and the unmistakable Fritella. This is the typical dessert of this wonderful fair. It was really the cherry on the cake of the evening 😋
