Who likes having a fever? My Actifit Report Card: January 24 2025
This photo is from Monday, to remind how beautiful mountains in winter are. I have to skip my planned weekend hike to due to a virus in my upper airways.
Yesterday I had a high fever (approaching 39° Celsius) but didn’t take any medicine until the evening.
We had been taught by our Moms and Grandmas (or social media if you are Gen Z) that fever is bad and needs to be beaten down. Yes, in some cases that’s true. But for most of healthy population, the opposite is true.
What causes fever? Our own body! It heats the temperature to damage the protein chains of viruses or other pathogens (think what happens to the white of egg when you heat it) and also to boost production of lymphocytes, which are our rangers to patrol and destroy enemies.
For a healthy adult person, it is safe to heat up to 39° C. It comes with a large margin, only at 41.5° we are in lethal danger and our command control knows that value.
So if a fever is the enemy of my enemy, I will not jeopardise my own immune system. Yes, hot forehead and shivers are not my favourites But better to be hot/cold and feel fatigue than to take what Big Pharma wants to force upon us and let the virus linger longer inside my body. What I do take, is ammunition for my precious rangers - vitamins C, D3, M and K. Plus some „grandma’s” advises - ginger, garlic, lemon etc. (which basically come to same thing - to boost the immune system).
This my second day of high fever, my battle plan is to endure 2 more. Of course I am resigning from my planned hiking trip. My group is upset, but they will do without me. They will have weather like pictured above. Looking forward to seeing their photos!
