Sometimes Germany can be quite funny — or maybe I should rather say ridiculous. All across the country, people are shouting all sorts of slogans, and even when no one wants to listen, they try to make themselves heard somehow. Stickers and posters of every kind come in handy, and people love to use them to “beautify” their towns and communities.

Everyone has something to say and is desperate to share it. Fortunately, some are just joking around in the end, but others, unfortunately, are really serious about what they’re spouting. Well, even if you’d like to laugh it off, that laughter unfortunately keeps getting stuck in your throat out of sheer bewilderment.

Me against you, and us against everyone. And everyone against the rest of the world and the entire universe. If you don’t agree, then you’re against me — but if you’re on my side me, I’ll switch sides immediately.

Up against down, or back against front? Most of the time, you don’t even know where you are and what you’re supposed to stand for. The slogans change daily and are interchangeable, just like the colors and flags you hang out in the wind.

“Destruction” sounds better than “Building” and, above all, seems to require less effort. The thrill of wrecking things and the joy of doom outweigh the hope for improvement and the future we’ve always wanted.

Together against each other, and then united toward the end. What could be more tempting than the promise of final victory? But no one is quite sure yet what that will ultimately look like. Just as long as it’s different, and just as long as it’s “us” and not “you” — everything else will work itself out. How to get there isn’t that important either, as long as we take a different path than the one used so far. Signal left and turn right, or vice versa — the confusion itself reveals the lack of tactics. Isn't is the biggest fun to drive without any logical strategy?

Perhaps it doesn’t really matter all that much whether we end up anywhere at all. Just keep moving and let the stones roll. And if possible, leave only rubble and scorched earth behind — oh, how wonderful paradise on earth could be.

The angels play bass guitar instead of harps, and trumpets and kettledrums sound from all around. What a heavenly concert could be given on the ruins of our own civilization.

God and the Devil dance the polka, and together pour oil on the fire. There’s no water left anyway, for it was wasted on finally cleaning things up properly. Washing away the filth of civilization from the last millennia has been a celebration, so wonderful that people will still be raving over it until the end of time. How glorious it looks when the flames rise higher and higher, devouring everything, and when life is suddenly up to your neck.

No one can swim their way to freedom anymore, as no one ever learned to swim — why waste time on something useful and helpful? Time can be spent much more meaningfully; after all, there are still far too many flowers that need to be trampled down.

We want it all, and we want it now. Our tomorrow is already here today, and we won’t let anyone take that away from us. Not you, and certainly not your grandma, who has absolutely no idea what’s good for her anyway. Yesterday is in the past, so we’d better forget about it as quickly as possible. Here comes the new era, which never doubts and never makes mistakes. Because if everything that was supposedly never right is now wrong, then everything can now be true, if only we want it to be that way. Life seems suddenly so simple, and nothing has ever been clearer.

The fight against every structure is a celebration that must never end. We dance even in cemeteries and trenches - we don’t even need to show any respect for ourselves. Why should we, since we imagine ourselves in a battle against all kinds of values and traditions, and since we plan to finally bury such false friends as appreciation and esteem. Very soon, the party will be over, and so will everything else that has defined us. The fuse is already lit, and the big bang is unstoppable. Why not? Everyone seems to be looking forward to it so much.

But afterwards, when you eventually ask yourselves how it could have come to this point — it will be the same as always: In the end, no one will want to have been responsible this time either.
