As a province where the monarch is still reigning, royal carriages are still part of the transportation means in the area. These royal carriages are used during coronations, weddings, or any important events that the royals attended. The monarch family displayed their collection under the Royal Carriage Museum for many of us to see.
This museum has various displays, from attire to the kinds of horses and the oldest royal train that shouldn't be pictured. It is an exciting museum in its own right because you get to see the beautiful ornaments that adorn the carriages. For people who love the royal family and their lives, even carriages, this place is a must-visit in the area.
One of my favorites was this almost century-old carriage that is still kept really well. As I've said, that particular carriages can not be pictured for cultural reasons. But I could just admire its beauty and how it was kept despite being over a century old.
To enter this place, you must go to the ticketing center next to the Northern Square lawn and pay 20,000 IDR to enter the museum. The ticketing staff will give you some options, and you can explore either the Royal Palace or the Royal Carriage Museum. Since I have been to some spots in the royal areas, I decided to go to the Royal Carriage Museum, which is still open.
The people around the area are really lovely. Still, you can feel like you're being hustled, which adds annoyance to the experience. It was the region's least friendly and welcoming spot, but perhaps they were simply tired, and they had too many tourists all around. So maybe that's why they weren't nice to me and my friend.
The last time I went inside this carriage museum was in kindergarten. The building didn't change much, but how it displayed some collections has changed. I also noticed that they added more carriages and information. I could be wrong since it was a long time ago, but this visit left me with a good impression of the place.
Despite living in the province for almost a decade, I barely entered the place. It's like one of those tourist activities, but now I am just that tourist, and it seems more fitting to check out the place. At the start of this museum, you'll get to see the collection of replica horses that they used to carry the carriages. Then, there's even a royal umbrella and the uniform of the royal household servants. They are pretty modernized and look like a marching band costume.
Then, there are a couple more displays of the carriages that are still being used during important royal functions. They have greatly changed throughout the years and even have European influences. As you see in the pictures below, their carriage has some European influences.
I think visiting the museum with a guide rather than going alone is best. Usually, there's a certain tip for the guide, but it won't cost you much. At the time, since I was rushing, I didn't use the guide and just strolled around the area, reading the sign myself while eavesdropping on the group in front of me that used a guide.
I would love to revisit the place just because it's one of the underrated places to check out, as well as the palace grounds and the other areas. In the past, I visited different areas of it, and I think, just like most royal areas, they are divided into a couple of parts, and you just have to know the parts that are more interesting than the others. Hopefully, I can come back to this place soon!
