(D) Im März 2024 haben meine Freundin und ich eine einwöchige Städtereise nach Paris (Frankreich) gemacht. Unsere letzten Aufenthalte in der Stadt der Liebe lagen jeweils 20 Jahre zurück, so konnten wir beide eine altbekannte Stadt wieder neu entdecken. Untergebracht waren wir im Mairet-Quartier zwischen "Republique" und des Flusses Seine. Als Unterkunft diente uns eine grosszügige 1-Raum-Loftwounung mit Bad, Toilette und Küchenutensilien, in einer ruhigen Umgebung wo nur Anwohner, Lieferanten und die Müllabfuhr die 30er-Zonen-Gässchen befahren durften. Unser Standort lag nur wenige Gehminuten von verschiedenen Metro-Stationen entfernt, welche uns in alle verschiedenen Richtungen brachten.
(ENG) In March 2024, my girlfriend and I went on a one-week city trip to Paris (France). Our last visits to the city of love had each been 20 years ago, so we were both able to rediscover a familiar city. We stayed in the Mairet neighbourhood between the "Republique" and the River Seine. Our accommodation was a spacious one-room loft apartment with a bathroom, toilet and kitchen utensils, in a quiet neighbourhood where only residents, suppliers and refuse collectors were allowed to drive through the 30-zone streets. Our location was only a few minutes' walk from various metro stations, which took us in all different directions.
(ESP) En marzo de 2024, mi novia y yo hicimos un viaje de una semana a París (Francia). Nuestras últimas visitas a la ciudad del amor habían sido cada una 20 años atrás, así que ambos pudimos redescubrir una ciudad conocida. Nos alojamos en el barrio de Mairet, entre la "Republique" y el Sena. Nuestro alojamiento era un espacioso apartamento tipo loft de una sola habitación, con cuarto de baño, aseo y utensilios de cocina, en un barrio tranquilo donde sólo los residentes, los proveedores y los basureros podían circular por las calles de la zona 30. Estábamos a pocos minutos a pie de varias estaciones de metro, que nos llevaban en todas direcciones.
(D) Bereits an unserem ersten Ferientag in Paris haben wir das wohl bekannteste Bauwerk erklommen, um uns mal einen Überblick der Stadt zu machen, und uns zu orientieren, in
welchen Richtungen all die schönen Dinge, die wir sehen wollten, liegen. Um nicht zuviel Geld auszugeben und um nicht zu lange anstehen zu müssen, haben wir uns spontan einer Führung angeschlossen. Geführte Dinge in Gruppen ist eigentlich nicht ganz unser Reisestil, aber für die verkürzten Wartezeiten hat es sich gelohnt, und unser Tourguide hat es gut spielerisch gemacht und informative Geschichten über den 330 Meter hohen Turm gewusst zu erzählen. Am meisten erstaunt mich die Tatsache, dass all die 2.5 Millionen Nieten und 18'000 Teile von Hand, bis in luftiger Höhe, eingeschlagen und zusammengesteckt worden sind, in Zeiten vor Bolzenhammer und Kran und Hebebühne. Und noch mehr fasziniert mich, dass es währebd der zweijährigen Bauzeit des Bau-(Kunst)-Werks zu keinem tödlichen (!) Unfall gekommen ist, wenn man die damaligen, im Vergleich zu heute fast nicht vorhandenen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und -vorschriften.
Die eiserne Lady, wie der Eiffelturm auch gerne genannt wird, blieb die ganze kommende Woche die einzige bezahlte und geführte Sehenswürdigkeit. Und nun, einige Zeit später, ist mir aufgefallen dass wir den bei Nacht leuchtenden Turm gar nie im Dunkeln bestaunt haben.
(ENG) On our very first day of our holiday in Paris, we climbed the most famous building to get an overview of the city and to orientate ourselves in which directions all the beautiful things we wanted to see lay. In order not to spend too much money and to avoid having to queue for too long, we spontaneously joined a guided tour. Guided tours in groups are not really our style of travel, but it was worth it for the shorter waiting times, and our tour guide did a good job of making it fun and telling informative stories about the 330 metre high tower. What amazes me most is the fact that all the 2.5 million rivets and 18,000 parts were hammered in and fitted together by hand, even at lofty heights, in times before bolt hammers, cranes and lifting platforms. And what fascinates me even more is that there were no fatal (!) accidents during the two-year construction period of the construction (art) plant, considering the safety precautions and regulations that were almost non-existent at the time compared to today.
The Iron Lady, as the Eiffel Tower is often called, remained the only paid and guided attraction for the entire week that followed. And now, some time later, I've realised that we never actually marvelled at the glowing tower in the dark.
(ESP) El primer día de nuestras vacaciones en París, subimos al edificio más famoso para tener una visión general de la ciudad y orientarnos en qué direcciones estaban todas las cosas bonitas que queríamos ver. Para no gastar demasiado dinero y no tener que hacer cola durante demasiado tiempo, nos apuntamos espontáneamente a una visita guiada. Las visitas guiadas en grupo no son realmente nuestro estilo de viaje, pero mereció la pena por el menor tiempo de espera, y nuestro guía hizo un buen trabajo haciéndolo divertido y contando historias informativas sobre la torre de 330 metros de altura. Lo que más me asombra es que los 2,5 millones de remaches y las 18.000 piezas se clavaron y encajaron a mano, incluso a gran altura, en una época anterior a los martillos perforadores, las grúas y las plataformas elevadoras. Y lo que me fascina aún más es que no se produjera ningún accidente mortal (!) durante los dos años que duró la construcción de la planta (de arte), teniendo en cuenta las precauciones y normas de seguridad que eran casi inexistentes en aquella época en comparación con las actuales.
La Dama de Hierro, como se suele llamar a la Torre Eiffel, siguió siendo la única atracción de pago y guiada durante toda la semana siguiente. Y ahora, algún tiempo después, me he dado cuenta de que en realidad nunca nos maravillamos ante la torre resplandeciente en la oscuridad.
(D) Der Eiffelturm war tatsächlich die einzige Sehenswürdigkeit, die wir, mit Einritt zu bezahlen, richtig besichtigt haben. Dass soll aber nicht heissen, dass wir nichts von der grossartigen Stadt gesehen haben. Im Gegenteil, denn klar sind wir die berühmte CHAMPS-ÉLYSÉES rauf und runter und um den Arc de Triomphe spaziert, haben die auf einem Hügel gelegene Kirche "Sacré Coeur" bewundert und sind durch das künstlerisch angehauchte Quartier "Montmartre" flaniert. Bei regnerischem Wetter zogen wir uns in berühmte Einkaufspassage wie Lafayette zurück und bei Sonnenschein erkundeten wir die Einkaufsstrassen rund um die "Rue de Rivoli" und "Les Halles". Zwischen den tausenden Schritten haben wir uns von Zeit zu Zeit in einem der vielen Bistros bei Croque Monsieurs, Crêpes oder Galette, und gutem Kaffee oder Wein erholt und dabei die Szenerie in den Strassen von Paris beobachtet. Nach der verdienten Verpflegung ging es dann weiter durch Parks und Gärten.
Das Wetter in dieser Woche war ganz ok. Am Anfang der Woche war es noch diesig und nass, aber zum Ende immer freudlicher, so dass wir im März auf der Terrasse der Bistros unsere Jacken ausziehen konnten.
(ENG) The Eiffel Tower was actually the only attraction that we visited properly with an entrance fee. But that doesn't mean that we didn't see anything of this magnificent city. On the contrary, we walked up and down the famous CHAMPS-ÉLYSÉES and around the Arc de Triomphe, admired the Sacré Coeur church on a hill and strolled through the artistic Montmartre neighbourhood. In rainy weather, we retreated to famous shopping arcades such as Lafayette and in the sunshine we explored the shopping streets around Rue de Rivoli and Les Halles. Between the thousands of steps, we took a break from time to time in one of the many bistros with croque monsieurs, crêpes or galettes, and good coffee or wine while watching the scenery in the streets of Paris. After our well-earned refreshments, we continued our stroll through parks and gardens.
The weather this week was quite ok. At the beginning of the week it was still hazy and wet, but towards the end it became more and more pleasant, so that we were able to take off our jackets on the terrace of the bistros in March.
(ESP) En realidad, la Torre Eiffel fue la única atracción que visitamos propiamente con entrada. Pero eso no significa que no viéramos nada de esta magnífica ciudad. Al contrario, subimos y bajamos por las famosas CHAMPS-ÉLYSÉES y alrededor del Arco del Triunfo, admiramos la iglesia del Sacré Coeur en una colina y paseamos por el artístico barrio de Montmartre. Con tiempo lluvioso, nos retiramos a famosas galerías comerciales como Lafayette y, bajo el sol, exploramos las calles comerciales en torno a la Rue de Rivoli y Les Halles. Entre los miles de escalones, descansamos de vez en cuando en uno de los muchos bistrós con croque monsieurs, crêpes o galettes, y buen café o vino mientras contemplábamos el paisaje de las calles de París. Tras nuestros merecidos refrigerios, continuamos nuestro paseo por parques y jardines.
El tiempo esta semana fue bastante bueno. Al principio de la semana seguía siendo brumoso y húmedo, pero hacia el final se hizo cada vez más agradable, de modo que pudimos quitarnos las chaquetas en la terraza de los bistrós en marzo.
(D) Paris habe ich als eine Stadt im ständigen Austausch, besser Rausch der Jahrhunderte erlebt. Neben dem Zenrum mit altehrwürdigen Gebäude, wie das Museum "Louvre" oder dem Schloss "Versailles", ragt der neue Stadtteil "La Défense" mit seinen Wolkenkratzer aus dem Boden gegen den Himmel. Im Zentrum sind die Grenzen des Bauens nach aussen bereits erreicht. So werden altehrwürdige Bauten von aussen restauriert, und von innen ausgehöhlt, renoviert und isoliert. Auf gleichem Raum entstehen neue Lofts, werden Wände herausgebrochen und neue Zimmer kombiniert. Und es werden ganze Einkaufspassagen darin versteckt.
Während meine Freundin und ich durch Paris spazierten, wurden überall Baugerüste auf- und abgebaut, kreischte eine Schlagbohrmaschine hinter den Fassaden und waren die Strassen aufgerissen, weil die Kanalisation erneuert oder Glasfaserkabel verlegt wurde. Paris glich einer Baustelle. Aus alt mach neu. Wahrscheinlich hatten die vielen Baustellen auch damit zu tun, dass diesen Sommer die Olympiade in Paris stattfinden wird, und sich die Stadt zuvor nochmals richtig aufwerten und herausputzen will.
(ENG) I experienced Paris as a city in a constant state of flux, or rather a frenzy of centuries. In addition to the centre with its time-honoured buildings, such as the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles, the new district of La Défense with its skyscrapers rises from the ground towards the sky. In the centre, the limits of outward construction have already been reached. Time-honoured buildings are being restored on the outside and hollowed out, renovated and insulated on the inside. New lofts are being built in the same space, walls are being knocked out and new rooms combined. And entire shopping arcades are hidden inside.
As my friend and I walked through Paris, scaffolding was being erected and dismantled everywhere, a percussion drill was screeching behind the facades and the streets were being torn up because the sewers were being renewed or fibre optic cables were being laid. Paris resembled a building site. Old becomes new. The many building sites probably had something to do with the fact that the Olympics will be held in Paris this summer, and the city wants to really spruce itself up beforehand.
(ESP) Viví París como una ciudad en constante cambio, o más bien en un frenesí de siglos. Además del centro, con sus edificios consagrados, como el Museo del Louvre y el Palacio de Versalles, el nuevo barrio de La Défense, con sus rascacielos, se eleva desde el suelo hacia el cielo. En el centro, ya se han alcanzado los límites de la construcción exterior. Los edificios antiguos se restauran por fuera y se vacian, renuevan y aíslan por dentro. Se construyen nuevos lofts en el mismo espacio, se derriban muros y se combinan nuevas habitaciones. Y en su interior se esconden galerías comerciales enteras.
Mientras mi amigo y yo paseábamos por París, se montaban y desmontaban andamios por todas partes, un taladro de percusión chirriaba detrás de las fachadas y se arrancaban las calles porque se renovaban las alcantarillas o se tendían cables de fibra óptica. París parecía una obra en construcción. Lo viejo se convierte en nuevo. Las numerosas obras tienen que ver probablemente con el hecho de que este verano se celebrarán en París los Juegos Olímpicos, y la ciudad quiere acicalarse de verdad antes.
(D) Auch wenn ich in diesem Post ungefähr 15 Bilder veröffentlich habe, sind in einer Woche Ferien in Paris nicht wirklich viele Fotos von Sehenswürdigkeiten und Sonstigem der Stadt selbst entstanden. Abgesehen von den gut 1000 geknipsten Fotos vom modernen Stadtteils "La Défense" mit seinen Wolkenkratzer und moderner Architektur.
Eine ähnliche Erfahrung habe ich bereits in der spanischen Grossstadt Barcelona gemacht. Auch dort bin mehrer Tage durch die Strassen spaziert/geirrt, ohne wirklich oft den Abzug meiner Kamera zu betätigen. Erst als ich die moderne U-Bahn und einige hohe Gebäude entdeckt habe, sind anschauliche Bilder entstanden.
So scheint es mir gerade, dass ich nicht "in the mood" für wilde, spontane Strassenfotografie bin, sondern mir eher Fotomissionen ausdenke, und dann wahrscheinlich ziemlich verbissen meinem Plan folge.
(ENG) Even though I published about 15 pictures in this post, I didn't really take many photos of sights and other things in the city itself during my week's holiday in Paris. Apart from the 1000 or so photos I took of the modern "La Défense" district with its skyscrapers and modern architecture.
I had a similar experience in the Spanish city of Barcelona. There, too, I spent several days wandering through the streets without really pulling the trigger on my camera very often. It was only when I discovered the modern underground railway and some tall buildings that I took some vivid pictures.
So it seems to me that I'm not "in the mood" for wild, spontaneous street photography, but rather think up photo missions and then probably follow my plan quite doggedly.
(ESP) Aunque publiqué unas 15 fotos en este post, en realidad no hice muchas fotos de lugares de interés y otras cosas en la propia ciudad durante mi semana de vacaciones en París. Aparte del millar de fotos que hice del moderno barrio de "La Défense", con sus rascacielos y su moderna arquitectura.
Tuve una experiencia similar en la ciudad española de Barcelona. Allí también pasé varios días deambulando por las calles sin apretar el disparador de mi cámara muy a menudo. Sólo cuando descubrí el moderno metro y algunos edificios altos tomé algunas fotos vívidas.
Así que me parece que no estoy "de humor" para la fotografía callejera salvaje y espontánea, sino que más bien ideo misiones fotográficas y luego probablemente sigo mi plan con bastante tenacidad.
(D) Auch wenn ich das Centre Pompidou, ein Zentrum für moderne Kunst und Kultur, noch nie von Innen besichtigt habe, hat bei einem Aufenthalt in Paris ein Spaziergang um das Gebäude herum noch nie gefehlt. Da ich nicht wirklich ein Museumsgänger bin, oder vielleicht einfach das Wetter zu gut war, um die Zeit im Innern eines Gebäudes zu verbringen, fasziniert mich jedesmal dessen gerüstartige Aussenfassade mit ihren aufgehängten Rolltreppen- und Durchgangsröhren und dem Luftungsrohregeflecht auf dessen Rückseite. Ein wunderschönes Stück moderner Architektur mit unzähligen Linien, welches ob zum Betrachten mit blossem Auge oder durch die Linse einer Kamera unzählige Motive bietet.
(ENG) Even though I have never visited the Centre Pompidou, a centre for modern art and culture, from the inside, a walk around the building has never been missing during a stay in Paris. As I'm not really a museum-goer, or perhaps the weather was just too good to spend time inside a building, I'm always fascinated by its scaffold-like exterior façade with its suspended escalator and passage tubes and the network of ventilation pipes at the back. A beautiful piece of modern architecture with countless lines that offers countless motifs, whether viewed with the naked eye or through the lens of a camera.
(ESP) Aunque nunca he visitado por dentro el Centro Pompidou, centro de arte y cultura modernos, nunca ha faltado un paseo por el edificio durante una estancia en París. Como no soy muy aficionado a los museos, o quizás el tiempo era demasiado bueno para pasar tiempo en el interior de un edificio, siempre me fascina su fachada exterior, parecida a un andamio, con sus escaleras mecánicas y tubos de paso suspendidos y la red de conductos de ventilación de la parte trasera. Una hermosa pieza de arquitectura moderna de innumerables líneas que ofrece innumerables motivos, tanto si se observa a simple vista como a través del objetivo de una cámara.
(D) Wenn meine Freundin und ich nicht gerade die Stadt zu Fuss erkundeten oder uns über längere Distanzen, schnell und einfach von A nach B, transportieren lassen wollten, haben wir gerne das ausgeklügelte Netz der Pariser Metro genutzt. Scheinbar an jeder Ecke gibt es eine Zugang zur U-Bahn, die Wartezeiten sind kurz und man kann Treppen hinauf, Treppen hinunter und kilometerweit durch Flure gehen. Um aber richtig ins Fotografieren der verschiedenen Perspektiven der Flure oder Stationen zu versinken, haben wir ein wenig zu wenig Zeit im Untergrund verbracht. Auch hatte es mir zu viele Menschen in den Fluren und Haltestellen, und ich hatte ein wenig Skrupel die Leute scheinbar direkt zu fotografieren.
(ENG) When my girlfriend and I weren't exploring the city on foot or travelling long distances quickly and easily from A to B, we enjoyed using the ingenious Paris metro network. There seems to be an entrance to the metro on every corner, waiting times are short and you can walk up and down stairs and for kilometres through corridors. However, we didn't spend enough time underground to really immerse ourselves in photographing the different perspectives of the corridors or stations. There were also too many people in the corridors and stations, and I had a few qualms about photographing people directly.
(ESP) Cuando mi novia y yo no estábamos explorando la ciudad a pie o recorriendo largas distancias rápida y fácilmente de A a B, disfrutábamos utilizando la ingeniosa red de metro de París. Parece haber una boca de metro en cada esquina, los tiempos de espera son cortos y se puede subir y bajar escaleras y recorrer kilómetros de pasillos. Sin embargo, no pasamos suficiente tiempo bajo tierra para sumergirnos realmente en la fotografía de las diferentes perspectivas de los pasillos o las estaciones. También había demasiada gente en los pasillos y estaciones, y tuve algunos reparos a la hora de fotografiar directamente a la gente.
(D) Der grosse Louvre ist ein weiteres Museum, welches wir nur von aussen begutachtet haben. Doch habe ich beim flanieren über den grossen Vorplatz die gläserne Pyramide aus wahrscheinlichballen möglichen Winkel fotografiert. Als wir nun am Ende unserer Ferien verträumt über besagten Vorhof schlenderten, erblickten wir einen besitzerlosen Koffer auf dem grossen Platz stehen. Und bereits rannten einige Sicherheitskräfte in Richtung des Koffers, und begannen die anwesenden Touristen wegzuweisen. Weg vom Platz und Weg vom braunen Koffer. Auch wir entfernten uns rasch vom Platz. Bei einem Blick zurück über meine Schulter sah ich das es bereits Entwarnung gab und der Besitzer des ominösen Koffers gefunden wurde. So schnell kann es gehen, aus den traumhaften Ferien zurück in die nackte Realität.
(ENG) The great Louvre is another museum that we only visited from the outside. But I took photos of the glass pyramid from probably every possible angle as we strolled across the large forecourt. As we strolled dreamily across the forecourt at the end of our holiday, we spotted an unowned suitcase standing in the large square. Some security guards were already running towards the suitcase and began to direct the tourists away. Away from the square and away from the brown suitcase. We also quickly moved away from the square. Looking back over my shoulder, I saw that the all-clear had already been given and the owner of the ominous suitcase had been found. It can happen that quickly, from a dream holiday back to stark reality.
(ESP) El gran Louvre es otro museo que sólo visitamos por fuera. Pero tomé fotos de la pirámide de cristal probablemente desde todos los ángulos posibles mientras paseábamos por el gran patio. Al final de nuestras vacaciones, mientras paseábamos soñadoramente por el patio, vimos una maleta sin dueño en la gran plaza. Algunos guardias de seguridad ya corrían hacia la maleta y empezaron a alejar a los turistas. Lejos de la plaza y lejos de la maleta marrón. Nosotros también nos alejamos rápidamente de la plaza. Al mirar hacia atrás por encima del hombro, vi que ya habían dado el visto bueno y habían encontrado al propietario de la ominosa maleta. Así de rápido se puede pasar de unas vacaciones de ensueño a la cruda realidad.
