RE: Contra-Agile Advancement Mechanics in Wolfenstein: Youngblood (Part 1: Problem)
The sad thing is that it's actually a really good experience at its core and gets pulled away from it by things. The two-person co-op buddy shooter is not terribly common these days (at least not in PC

RE: The Legacy of Eight: Imperial Culture
One of the impetuses that lead to this was the fact that I feel like a lot of sci-fi settings don't go into a lot of detail about how people live. It's really easy to talk about technology and politics,

RE: My mind can't forget - my perfect memory is my real curse
The big thing I always try to remember when I'm in a moment like this is that you're always able to be stronger than you were. The past isn't something to downplay, but you haven't stopped in the past.

RE: Sicario (film): An interesting take on the war on drugs
I went to this movie with really low expectations, but I was really pleasantly surprised. It's a hard film to watch at times, though. Very intense. It handles its subject matter in a very intelligent way,

RE: Some new loot....
I knew that you're into music, but I don't think I ever learned what you play. Is that a viola I see in the photo? As for Pathfinder, it's a great game if you like certain bits of D&D. If 3.5 is your

RE: Some new loot....
The different video games are of differing levels of fidelity. Generally they're quite good as far as adaptations go, with a really strong focus on the storytelling.

RE: R-Type (classic game) : back when shooters were king
I remember games like R-Type fondly. I'm too young to remember the originals, and my family didn't have consoles until I was several years into my elementary school career, but I think that hte formula

RE: Archdruid Gaming Contest | Gaming Decades: The 90's - Total Prize Pool: 30 STEEMs!!!
I'm finally getting a comment to cross-reference where I posted these, even though I finished them all comfortably before the deadline: The 90's: Decade of the RPG: The Joy of Total Annihilation: in hindsight,

RE: The 90's: Decade of the RPG
The modern Fallout games are really good in my opinion (76 being a matter of contention), but the classics have something to them that just hasn't been preserved well in the sequels. They fall apart a

RE: Hammercalled Playtest Reflections 7/6
Playtesting is critical not just for getting to a point where you know what you're doing, but also as a generative process. Back when I was a game reviewer, I would often see things that were uninspired,

I never really got into collectible cards as a kid (with the exception of a couple flirtations), but I have a lot of friends now who are into Magic the Gathering and have been since they were kids. It's

RE: The Effervescent Pre-Adolescent
As a teacher (and someone who was partially homeschooled), I often get asked about homeschooling. I don't necessarily recommend it, both because I've only been at schools that tend to be pretty high performing

Yeah, I've noticed that every big A-list thing seems to have at least a thousand people working on it. It's cool because you're very easily able to get within a degree or two of separation of anything

RE: Horzon Zero Dawn (PS4): Final Analysis
I actually "work" (as a freelancer) with someone who worked (I believe as a non-freelancer) on Horizon: Zero Dawn. I haven't played it because I don't have a PS4 or really enough disposable income

Yeah, it was rough. Fortunately it sounds like she probably had a stroke, rather than one of the more painful ways to go, and we were on it enough to have her put down before any really horrible suffering

TA is the sort of game that I find refreshing whenever I get a little burnt out on games. It's definitely got places where it shows its age, but it and its successors just feel right in a way that a lot
