Starting in the village of Bibury, I was greeted by the iconic Arlington Row, a row of 17th-century weavers' cottages that are often considered one of the most photographed scenes in England. The way the light subtly reflected off the River Coln added a serene touch to the scenery.
As I walked along the winding paths, I passed through fields dotted with wildflowers, listening to the cheerful chirping of birds overhead. The scent of blooming lavender lingered in the air, adding a delightful fragrance to my journey.
During my walk, I had the pleasure of meeting a few fellow walkers. One lovely elderly couple shared stories of their travels through the Cotswolds over the past few decades. They recounted tales of local traditions, including the annual cheese rolling event at Cooper's Hill, which had me chuckling at the thought of brave souls tumbling down the hill after a runaway cheese!
In another charming village, I stopped at a quaint tea room where I enjoyed a traditional cream tea. The owner, a local with a wealth of knowledge about the area, shared some fascinating history about the village, including its role in the wool trade during the Middle Ages. It was incredible to see how the past still echoes in the architecture and community.
As the day drew to a close, I made my way back to Bibury, feeling rejuvenated and inspired by the beauty of the Cotswolds. This walk was a perfect reminder of how rich and vibrant England’s landscapes and history are, and I can’t wait for my next adventure!
