As I strolled along the banks of the River Windrush, I admired the quaint stone bridges and the traditional Cotswold architecture. The honey-colored limestone buildings looked even more stunning against the backdrop of autumn leaves, creating a tapestry of warm colors.
I continued my walk toward Lower Slaughter, where I encountered a lovely couple who were also enjoying the scenery. They were visiting from London and shared stories about their travels through the countryside. We talked about our favorite walking spots, and they recommended a hidden gem in the area—a lesser-known village called Upper Slaughter, which I definitely plan to explore next time.
As I walked, I also spotted some local wildlife, including swans gliding gracefully across the water and a flock of sheep grazing peacefully in a nearby field. The serenity of the landscape was truly captivating, and I took a moment to appreciate the sounds of nature, punctuated by the distant laughter of children playing in the village.
The highlight of my walk was the golden hour, as the setting sun bathed the landscape in a warm glow. I made my way back to Bourton-on-the-Water just in time to catch the last light, and it felt like the perfect ending to a day filled with history and beauty. The Cotswolds never ceases to amaze me, and I can’t wait for my next adventure.
