As I wandered along the River Windrush, I admired the quaint pedestrian bridges and the lovely weeping willows lining the banks. The tranquility was only interrupted by the soft sounds of the water and the occasional chirping of birds. I also passed by the iconic model village, a miniature replica of Bourton-on-the-Water, which is fascinating for both children and adults alike.
Continuing my walk, I found myself surrounded by lush green fields and hedgerows bursting with wildflowers. The air had that fresh, earthy scent, and I spotted a group of sheep peacefully grazing – a quintessentially English scene.
Along the route, I met a lovely local couple, Margaret and Henry, who were out for their daily walk. We struck up a conversation, and they shared stories about the history of the area, particularly how the Cotswolds became prosperous through the wool trade in the 14th century, which explains the many beautiful Cotswold stone buildings.
As I continued my journey, I made my way to the village of Lower Slaughter. The village was even quieter than Bourton and had a serene beauty about it. I visited the old mill there, which now serves as a tea room and shop, and I couldn't resist a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea. The staff were incredibly friendly, sharing tales of the village’s past and the significance of the mill.
The walk concluded as I returned to Bourton-on-the-Water, just in time to see the sun setting. The golden light reflecting off the water was absolutely magical, and I felt a deep sense of peace and connection to the place. It
