As I strolled along the riverbank, I spotted a few ducks paddling about and some families enjoying picnics on the grassy banks. It was lovely to see people relaxed and soaking up the autumn sun. One of the highlights was visiting the Model Village, where I marvelled at a miniature replica of Bourton-on-the-Water—perfectly detailed and charming in its own right.
Continuing my walk, I took a path leading to Upper Slaughter, a village that feels like stepping back in time. The walk itself was enchanting, with tree-lined paths and the sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet. I paused to take in the views of rolling hills and the gentle sound of the river.
Along the way, I met a local artist named Sarah, who was setting up her easel to paint the landscape. We struck up a conversation about the area’s beauty and its historical significance. She shared fascinating stories about the architecture of the cottages, many of which date back to the 17th century and are made from the local honey-coloured limestone.
As I made my way back through the fields, I was greeted by the sight of sheep grazing, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace in the openness of the countryside. The walk reminded me of the rich history of the area, from the wool trade that once thrived here to the stunning gardens at nearby estates.
