As I followed the winding paths, I was greeted by lush green fields dotted with sheep and vibrant wildflowers. The iconic Cotswold stone cottages, with their honey-colored stone, added a quaint touch to the scenery. I made sure to stop at a few local shops and cafés along the way, sampling some delicious homemade scones with clotted cream—an absolute treat!
One of the highlights of my walk was visiting the beautiful Lower Slaughter, just a short distance from Bourton. Here, I was captivated by the serene beauty of the River Eye, which runs through the village. The old mill was particularly fascinating, and I enjoyed learning about its history—dating back to the 19th century, it was once a working mill.
During my walk, I met a lovely couple from London who were taking a weekend trip to the Cotswolds. We struck up a conversation about our favorite hiking spots and shared recommendations. They had just completed the Cotswold Way, a long-distance trail that showcases the best of the region, and their enthusiasm inspired me to consider doing the same one day.
As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the fields, I felt a profound sense of peace. The combination of nature, history, and friendly encounters truly made the day memorable. It was a reminder of why I love exploring England’s landscapes and connecting with both the past and the people in the present.
