I started in Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" due to the river that runs through the village. The quaint bridges and clear waters offered a lovely backdrop as I wandered along the riverside, taking in the sights of the old stone buildings and visiting the model village—a miniature replica of Bourton made entirely of local stone.
As I continued my walk, I passed through the fields toward Lower Slaughter, a nearby village that is equally charming. The path was lined with hedgerows full of berries, and I could hear the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. Along the way, I met a couple of local dog walkers who shared stories about their favorite spots in the area. They pointed out a hidden footpath that leads to an old mill, which I decided to explore later.
Upon reaching Lower Slaughter, I was captivated by the tranquility of the area. The Slaughter Country Walk provided stunning views of the countryside, and I took a moment to sit on a bench by the river and enjoy my packed lunch while watching the world go by.
As I headed back toward Bourton-on-the-Water, I couldn’t help but appreciate the combination of history and natural beauty surrounding me. The Cotswolds are steeped in history, with many buildings dating back to the 17th century. I even spotted a few ancient stone walls and remnants of old farmsteads, which sparked my interest in local history.
All in all, it was a lovely day filled with scenic views, friendly locals, and a deeper appreciation for the history woven into the fabric of the Cotswolds. I returned home feeling invigorated and inspired to learn more
