As I walked, I couldn’t help but admire the wildflowers that were in bloom during my visit. The bright yellows and purples contrasted beautifully with the deep green of the grass. I also encountered a few striking rock formations, which really reminded me of how the coastline has been shaped over millennia by both the sea and the weather.
I met a lovely couple from Bristol who were also hiking the trail. They shared stories of their previous walks around the coast and mentioned visiting the famous Valley of Rocks, not far from where we were. We ended up chatting about the local wildlife, and they mentioned having seen some Exmoor ponies in the area, which piqued my interest even more.
Along the path, I also stopped at a quaint little tea room in Lynmouth, where I enjoyed a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea. The proprietors were incredibly friendly and shared tales of the area’s history, including its Victorian past and the famous water-powered cliff railway.
That walk reminded me of the rich history and natural beauty of our English landscapes. Each step was a mixture of adventure and nostalgia, and I came away feeling inspired and rejuvenated. It’s one of the many reasons I love walking; you never know who you might meet or what fascinating stories will unfold along the way!
