As I walked, I came across a number of interesting sights. The iconic Godrevy Lighthouse stood majestically in the distance, a beacon guiding ships since the 19th century. It’s said to have inspired Virginia Woolf's "To the Lighthouse", which adds a lovely literary touch to the landscape. I also spotted seals basking on the rocks below, which was a delightful surprise and a reminder of the region's diverse wildlife.
Along the way, I met a lovely local couple who were out on a similar walk. They were quite knowledgeable about the area and shared fascinating stories about the shipwrecks that have occurred along the coast over the centuries. They pointed out a few spots where remnants of old vessels could still be seen poking out of the rocks during low tide.
As I continued my journey, I stopped at a quaint café for a Cornish pasty, a must-try when in the area! The café owner shared how the pasty is more than just food; it has historical significance among tin miners, who used to carry them down into the mines for a hearty meal.
The day ended with me watching the sunset over the ocean, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink. It was a perfect way to wrap up an enriching walk filled with history, nature, and friendly conversations. I always find that each walk brings its own stories and encounters, which makes exploring England such a rewarding experience!
