My last walk was along the stunning South West Coast Path, specifically the stretch around the picturesque village of Lynton and Lynmouth in North Devon. The views were nothing short of breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs plunging into the Atlantic Ocean and lush, green valleys carpeted in wildflowers.

As I walked, I took in the impressive sight of the famous Lynmouth Cliff Railway, which is the highest and steepest totally water-powered railway in the world. It was fascinating to learn that it was built in 1890 to transport goods and people between the two towns.

I stopped at a lovely little café nestled near the top of the cliffs where I met a local artist who was sketching the landscape. She told me about her love for the area and how it has inspired many of her paintings. We chatted about the history of the region, and she explained how the Victorian era brought a lot of visitors to Lynmouth, transforming it into a tourist destination.

Continuing my walk, I stumbled upon the charming Watersmeet, where the River Lyn meets the River Beck. There are beautiful walking trails around there, and it was a popular spot for hikers. I encountered a friendly group of elderly walkers who shared stories about their favorite walks in the area. They mentioned the infamous flood of 1952 that devastated Lynmouth, but also how the town has beautifully rebuilt itself since then.

I also spotted a wide variety of wildlife along the path – from sheep grazing on the hillsides to a variety of seabirds, and I even caught a glimpse of a seal bobbing in the waves! It was a fantastic reminder of how rich and diverse England's natural beauty can be.

The day ended with a stunning sunset over the coast, casting a golden glow on the water. It was the perfect conclusion to a day filled with history, conversation, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the English countryside. I can't wait for my next adventure!
