I started my walk in the quaint village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" due to its beautiful river running through the village. The tranquil sound of the water flowing over the low stone bridges created a perfect soundtrack for my walk. I took the time to explore the village, admiring the classic Cotswold architecture and the small shops selling local crafts and produce.
As I made my way out of Bourton, I followed a well-marked footpath that took me through meadows dotted with sheep and fields of wildflowers. The air was filled with the earthy scent of autumn leaves and the distant sound of birds singing. Along the path, I encountered a few fellow walkers—a friendly couple from London who were escaping the city for the weekend. We chatted about our love for the countryside and shared recommendations for other beautiful walks.
Continuing on, I passed by the iconic Lower Slaughter, another charming village with its idyllic stone cottages and a lovely little stream running alongside. I stopped to take some photos and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It felt like stepping back in time, especially with the historic mill and the old church nearby.
The highlight of my walk, however, was a chance encounter with a local farmer tending to his flock of sheep. He was incredibly welcoming and shared some fascinating stories about the area’s history and his family's farm, which has been in their possession for generations. He even gave me a brief lesson on sheepdog handling, which was quite an experience!
As I made my way back towards Bourton-on-the-Water, I took a moment to appreciate the beautiful views of the countryside—fields stretching out
