As I walked along the river, I admired the honey-colored limestone buildings that seemed to glow in the sunlight. I made a point to visit the Model Village, a miniature replica of Bourton-on-the-Water, which provided a fascinating perspective on how the village looked in the 1930s. The level of detail in the model was impressive!
Continuing on my walk, I ventured through peaceful meadows and quaint footpaths leading to Upper and Lower Slaughter, two villages that are just a short distance apart. The beautiful scenery was remarkable, with the sound of birds chirping and the gentle rustle of leaves in the backdrop.
Along the way, I encountered a lovely couple who were also walking the trail. They were from London and had come to the Cotswolds for a weekend getaway. We struck up a conversation about our favorite English walks and shared tips on hidden gems in the area. They recommended visiting the nearby Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, which I later added to my ever-growing list of places to explore.
As I made my way back to Bourton-on-the-Water, I stopped at a little tea shop for a proper English cream tea—scones with clotted cream and jam that were absolutely delicious! It was the perfect way to end a lovely day out in the countryside. This walk not only offered stunning views and rich history but also reminded me of the warm camaraderie found among fellow walkers eager to share their experiences.
