As I strolled along the riverbank, I marveled at the quaint stone bridges and the lovely thatched-roof cottages dotting the landscape. The autumn leaves were just beginning to turn, painting the scenery in vibrant hues of orange, red, and gold, which really added to the beauty of the area.
I passed by a few local shops selling handmade crafts and delicious treats like Cotswold cheese and traditional scones. One shopkeeper, an elderly gentleman named Mr. Harrison, was particularly friendly. He shared stories about the village's history and local legends, including one about the old stone bridge that was said to have been built by a legendary stonemason who could carve stone faster than anyone else.
Continuing my walk, I decided to take a small detour through the fields, where I was delighted to meet a group of hikers who were also exploring the Cotswolds. We exchanged tips on the best local spots to visit and shared our favorite walking routes. It was lovely making new friends over our shared love for history and nature.
After a couple of hours, I arrived at the stunning village of Lower Slaughter, which lived up to its name with its enchanting beauty. The Slaughter Mill and the old waterwheel were amazing to see, and I couldn't resist snapping some photos. I learned that the name "Slaughter" actually refers to the Old English word for "slough" or "mud," which was common in this area.
