My last walk took me along the stunning Cotswold Way, a National Trail that stretches for about 102 miles from Bath to Chipping Campden. I embarked on a section from Painswick to Stroud, which is known for its picturesque landscapes and charming villages.

As I set off early in the morning, the mist clung to the rolling hills, creating a magical atmosphere. The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful St. Mary’s Church in Painswick, with its striking architecture and the surrounding yew trees that are said to be over 300 years old. They create a unique beauty and a serene spot for reflection.

As I walked, I passed through delightful little hamlets, each with its own character. The dry stone walls that lined the paths were fascinating, telling the story of local craftsmanship and the agricultural heritage of the region. I also spotted plenty of sheep grazing peacefully, a common sight in the Cotswolds, and had the pleasure of walking through fields dotted with vibrant wildflowers.

I met a couple of fellow walkers along the way, both from London, who were taking advantage of the long weekend. They were very friendly and shared some travel tips about other walking routes in the area. We exchanged stories about our favourite walks and even discovered we had a mutual love for the history of the region.

One highlight was stopping for lunch at a quaint little café in Stroud that had a lovely outdoor seating area. I had a delicious homemade quiche and a slice of cake while enjoying the view of the surrounding hills. Stroud is known for its vibrant arts scene, and I noticed several local artists showcasing their work in the marketplace.

As I continued my walk, the path led me through the beautiful woodlands of the Slad Valley. The sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves added to the peaceful ambiance. It reminded me of the natural beauty that the Cotswolds has to offer.
