As I wandered along the riverbank, I was struck by the charming stone bridges and the beautifully maintained gardens that dotted the landscape. The houses made of honey-coloured Cotswold stone were absolutely delightful, and I couldn't resist stopping to take some photos along the way.
One of the highlights of the walk was visiting the model village, which is a one-ninth scale replica of Bourton-on-the-Water itself. It was fascinating to see how each detail was meticulously crafted, reflecting the real village with such precision.
On my walk, I met an elderly gentleman named Mr. Thompson, who was sitting on a bench feeding the ducks. We struck up a conversation about the history of the area, and he shared some wonderful stories about his childhood in Bourton. He recalled how the village has changed over the decades, and it was interesting to hear his perspective on the impact of tourism in such a small community.
After chatting with Mr. Thompson, I continued my walk towards the nearby village of Lower Slaughter. The path took me through lush fields and past beautifully manicured hedgerows. Lower Slaughter is known for its traditional mill and serene riverside setting, and it was a perfect spot to enjoy a picnic I had packed.
As I sat by the river, I reflected on the rich history of the Cotswolds, including its role in the wool trade during the Middle Ages, which brought great wealth to the region. The area is also filled with ancient churches, each telling stories of the past.
