Applications that are open source, token based, stored in a decentralized blockchain, managed by algorithms, not controlled by a single entity, and improved by majority votes and decisions can be an engine to evolve a community of knowledge. The value generated by multiple decentralized applications on the blockchain has the same potential for transformation of the application ecosystem that Linux has/had for desktop operating systems. Let's apply these values consistently when we read the posts and PR releases of new consortia, new adopters, and startups in this space and then offer a "friendly" comparison against these values. A strand of these values was also part of the internet community when it began to expand, but it was hijacked by what are now some of the most dominant corporate entities simply because folks were too passive as it moved from its military use into the public domain. I'm not against monetizing applications, but I hope we all find ways to monetize without compromising or losing sight of the beauty of what Satoshi enabled and what Ethereum and other open blockchains continue to evolve.
