UX is CRAZY important and so many CTO's, Project Leads, etc just don't get that. As I always say, if it's not "grandma friendly", then you'll never get mass adoption. People that come to your app need to be able to figure out what it's for (your elevator pitch) and how to work it within 8 seconds. Longer than that and people start clicking out.
