Hey @geeknewscentral at 7:11 you guys start discussing what we call "bandwidth negotiation". The days of having to upload multiple bitrate media files are over. We do all of that starting out in the transcoding process of the mp3 file that you upload. On https://Cast.Garden the player itself (in the app, on the webpage, what have you) will automatically switch to lower bitrates if your internet bandwidth sucks, but it will always try to stream (P2P of course) the highest quality audio to you when it can, such as 320K or even with 4K video. The user can set it to a lower bitrate manually if they like with just one click though.
Using HLS, ffmpeg and activitypub protocol (for automated syndication out of any walled gardens), users are never forced to choose a bandwidth setting or download a specific file for their app.
UX is everything.
The RSS feeds (located in the "Subscribe" buttons around all Hive-Tube based platforms) are getting better too, including more advanced namespaces. Sometime soon I also would like to make it so that Podcasters can upload media specifically right into their video channel or just their audio/podcasts channel, etc. Playlists are already built-in now as well, but not many people are using those it seems.
If you have ideas, I would love to hear them so that I can build the best possible Podcasting 2.0 experience (web3 in particular).
Love the show Todd and Rob!! ♥️♥️
