Orange's new coverage map includes data and real samples from customers
At the time of consulting the mobile coverage we have two options. We can go to the website of our operator to see the data and maps they offer us or we can go to a third party application that is usually nourished by the data and real samples of the users themselves. To try to get the best of both worlds, Orange's new coverage map includes data and real samples from customers. We give you more details after the jump.
Orange has just presented a new coverage map in a "transparency exercise" in which it has invested nearly half a million euros. The operator, in addition to reporting the type of coverage between 4G +, 4G, 3G + and the others present in a specific locality, municipality or area, will also offer the possibility of checking the quality of that coverage, verified with real samples of clients that have been connected.

The French explain that, until now, all operators based their coverage data on estimates "obtained from theoretical calculations made with complex propagation models". They believe they can be more useful to their customers with this new map by reflecting the real experience of other customers with data based on 13 million real-time connections.
Orange has partnered with Weplan, an independent company that collects information from operators' coverage, to offer these values to those who consult their new coverage map. In this project they have been working for more than a year with an investment of half a million euros. In addition, their forecast is to multiply by 5 those 13 million samples they offer at this time.
In the new coverage map of Orange, hexagonal cells will be shown on the 4G + coverage outdoors. Clicking on each of the cells will open a window that will inform us if there are real connections with 4G + / 4G coverage with the Orange network in that area. If it exists, it will inform us if it is excellent or good.
Finally, the map allows you to search by any address, zip code, municipality, province or even points of interest.
