According to the information I checked online: one story is that Oden is actually a Japan-style 炖烩（hotpot) originated from the Northeast of China; another is Oden originated from Kanto region of Japan.

It is the first time that I've learned that Oden originated from Japan. In China we call it as 关东煮, but I've never thought of its origin before. You can even see it sold all year around in the street stalls

You are right. These ancient Chinese poems are apt for reading aloud. Most of quatrains were written in rhyming and antithesis. I always feel it is absolutely a good way for foreigners to learn Chinese
