"As Time Goes By" sung by Gwyneth Dorado popped up on my FYP again. I still remember crying the very first time I heard it, especially once I really paid attention to the lyrics. It hit hard.
i know that our love won't last, even if we both want it to.
it can't last forever against the passing time.
as time goes by, my heart feels like it'll burst with yearning. even if i try to forget the precious love that we had.
Don't forget. please remember..
"I know that our love won't last, even if we both want it to. It can't last forever against the passing time..."
Your religion made it impossible for us to be together. Deep down, I knew that someday we would have to break up, and I know you were well aware of it too. We never really talked about it we just lived in the moment, clinging to the present and the brief time we had. But looking at you one night while you were fast asleep, the reality hit me: losing you was going to be excruciatingly painful. And now, here I am, still in absolute pain because of how deeply I cherished you. The future was something we could never imagine together because the end was already written.
"As time goes by, my heart feels like it'll burst with yearning. Even if I try to forget the precious love that we had..."
These lyrics put perfect, painful words to exactly what I am going through. My heart feels like it’s constantly bursting with this ache for you. I try my absolute hardest to forget, but the yearning always takes over. I miss what we used to have so terribly. I can't seem to shake the memories memories that you have likely already buried deep in your heart, while mine keep resurfacing no matter how hard I try to push them down.
"Don't forget. Please, remember..."
These two words hold so much weight. They describe the desperate wish I carry, I hope you haven’t completely forgotten about us. I hope that, from time to time, you remember me just like I remember you. Even as time goes by, please don’t forget what I told you during our closure, that I will always love you. Even if it feels to you like I don't, just know that I always do. And I miss you...
The song perfectly mirrors the tragedy of what happened to us, and exactly what I am trapped in right now. Reading those lyrics again in the quiet of the night, my tears just started falling.
