Nature In Majestic Drakensberg
Waking to a bright sunshine morning at higher altitude the sky piercing blue sky being stabbed by sandstone rock formation, put on the walking shoes lets explore again.
After sharing breakfast with a Pied Starling, chatty little fellows are they without hesitation will enjoy whatever you have, little argy-bargy self service then off again.
Big trees offering shade give ample opportunity to cool off when one feels you over heating, well that is the exercise option of going on foot compared to many who slug around pools or drive everywhere.
Taking a route through the unusual grasses and bush, enjoying the smell which is so different to coastline always watching where you place your feet with small wild flowers (or snakes) peeping out between.
A rock formation I call old man resting where Swiman hut is at the foot, accommodating up to 30 people doing Giant's Cup trail. Swiman hut was an old forestry house with electricity, hot water, a large house with toilets , showers, kitchen and lounge enough for a group of hikers to take shelter after a day of enduring the trail. Verandah apparently offers wonderful views of Swayiman Peak rising 2 430 m above.
Zooming out a little to capture this outcrop set slightly away from the main geographical higher mountains.
No matter where you are under the mountain, pulse of Africa vibrates through body and soul always electric anticipation using 'self-drive' in hiking.
