Save or doom – When science and superheroes meet

It happened numerous time throughout history when great scientific invention was turned to tool of evil. Almost every amazing technology is a double-edged sword that can either help or destroy. We can overwrite DNA, build AI, produce various microorganisms, control mind with light and many more! Now, imagine some of your favourite superheroes or supervillains – such as Batman, Lex Luthor, Ironman, or Dr. Octopus. Not a single one of them was born with special powers or some magic abilities – yet they were all capable of great things. But, could this be done in real life? How to implement our technologies to conquer or destroy the world?? And what would it take to use such powers for good or to stop a supervillain?

That will be the main focus of my new upcoming series of articles – termed: Save or doom
I want to think about hypothetical misuse of technologies that could turn you into a dangerous supervillain. On the other hand, I want to come up with solutions of stopping such supervillains (we would not need superheroes if there were no supervillains). I imagine this series as a chess game, where I will represent both players – both viewpoints.

Yes, it is a bit controversial for a scientist to think about potential misuse of technologies. But I believe it is necessary to think and speak about this. One might say that this may inspire someone to take action, on the other hand we will be at least somewhat prepared if indeed someone misuses technology in such way. I believe that in order to prevent such acts of “terrorism” it is good to expect the worst.

Aaaand who doesn’t like superheroes and supervillains?! I do like to add a little bit of comedy and sci-fi/fantasy into the things I write. Nonetheless, I want to stay scientifically correct as much as possible! And hopefully will not create a supervillain in the process, haha.
