Estoy feliz de estar de regreso por aquí. Como les comenté hace poco, finalmente terminé por completo la saga Windy City de la autora Liz Tomforde, y he decidido dedicarle un post individual a cada una de las historias de este universo que tanto me atrapó.
El día de hoy toca hablar del cuarto libro, Play Along, una historia donde tenemos como protagonistas a dos personajes verdaderamente maravillosos: Kennedy y Isaiah. Tenía muchísimas ganas de traerles esta reseña y compartirles detalladamente qué tal me pareció su dinámica, así que ¡vamos a ello!

I'm so happy to be back here. As I mentioned recently, I finally finished the entire Windy City series by author Liz Tomforde, and I've decided to dedicate an individual post to each of the stories in this universe that grabbed me so much.
Today it's time to talk about the fourth book, Play Along, a story where we have two truly wonderful main characters: Kennedy and Isaiah. I really wanted to bring you this review and share in detail what I thought of their dynamics, so let's get into it!
🎲 De qué va la historia?
En esta historia conocemos a Kennedy, una fisioterapeuta deportiva brillante que busca un puesto importante en los Warriors de Chicago. Sin embargo, por ser mujer termina relegada a un cargo menor. Ella acepta con ganas de superarse, sin saber que Isaiah, la estrella del equipo, escuchó todo y quedó cautivado tanto por su inteligencia como por su belleza.
Pasan tres años de química constante hasta que se cruzan casualmente en Las Vegas. Entre copas y una noche fuera de control, terminan cometiendo la locura de casarse en una capilla con un imitador de Elvis Presley
Para evitar un escándalo y proteger el trabajo de Kennedy que es la que más tiene que perder si descubren la verdad, no les queda otra opción que fingir que son el matrimonio perfecto y aprender a vivir juntos.
In this story we meet Kennedy, a brilliant sports physiotherapist seeking an important position with the Chicago Warriors. However, because she is a woman, she ends up relegated to a minor position. She accepts with a desire to prove herself, unaware that Isaiah, the team's star player, overheard everything and was captivated by both her intelligence and her beauty.
Three years of constant chemistry pass until they accidentally cross paths in Las Vegas. Between drinks and a night out of control, they end up doing the crazy thing of getting married in a chapel with an Elvis Presley impersonator
To avoid a scandal and protect Kennedy's job who has the most to lose if the truth is discovered they have no choice but to pretend to be the perfect married couple and learn to live together.

Si algo me apasiona de los libros de Liz Tomforde es la forma en que escribe. Llevo toda la saga completamente enamorada de sus personajes, pero la historia de Kennedy e Isaiah me tocó el corazón de una manera diferente. Me encanta cómo la autora retrata el mundo del deporte, y especialmente cómo muestra el campo de la medicina deportiva y la fisioterapia.
Para quienes no lo sepan, soy estudiante de fisioterapia y uno de mis grandes sueños es llegar a ser una profesional dedicada al ámbito del deporte y la danza. Por eso, ver cómo Kennedy convierte su pasión en su estilo de vida hizo que sintiera una empatía enorme con ella desde la primera página.
Kennedy es una mujer luchadora, determinada y dedicada a aprender constantemente para cumplir sus metas. Aunque las cosas no siempre salgan a la primera, ella no permite que los tropiezos la definan; es un personaje sumamente resiliente y orgulloso de todo lo que ha construido.
Como estudiante, sé lo complicado que puede ser imaginarse abriendo paso en la industria deportiva. Muchas veces te encuentras con escenarios donde intentan minimizar tus logros simplemente por ser mujer o por la falsa idea de que no somos igual de capaces, fuertes o inteligentes. Ver a Kennedy encarar esta realidad me pareció un punto fuerte brillante en la historia.
Para mí, Kennedy se convirtió en una verdadera inspiración y un modelo a seguir: una mujer brillante en su trabajo, enamorada de su profesión y firme ante sus metas. Me encanta cómo Liz Tomforde redactó su historia para transmitirnos que sí podemos lograr lo que nos proponemos y que no debemos dejar que nadie apague nuestro esfuerzo.
If there's one thing I'm passionate about in Liz Tomforde's books, it's the way she writes. I've been completely in love with her characters throughout the entire series, but Kennedy and Isaiah's story touched my heart in a different way. I love how the author portrays the world of sports, and especially how she shows the field of sports medicine and physical therapy.
For those who don't know, I'm a physical therapy student, and one of my big dreams is to become a professional dedicated to sports and dance. That's why seeing how Kennedy turns her passion into her lifestyle made me feel enormous empathy for her from the very first page.
Kennedy is a fighter, determined and dedicated to constantly learning to achieve her goals. Even if things don't always work out on the first try, she doesn't let setbacks define her; she is a hugely resilient character who is proud of everything she has built.
As a student, I know how complicated it can be to imagine breaking into the sports industry. Many times you find yourself in scenarios where people try to minimize your achievements simply because you are a woman or because of the false idea that we are not as capable, strong, or smart as men. Seeing Kennedy face this reality felt like a brilliant strong point in the story.
For me, Kennedy became a true inspiration and role model: a woman who is brilliant at her job, in love with her profession, and steadfast in her goals. I love how Liz Tomforde wrote her story to convey that we can achieve what we set out to do and that we shouldn't let anyone dim our efforts.
⚾ Isaiah Rhodes
Por otro lado, tengo que hablar de Isaiah Rhodes! Sin duda se convirtió en uno de mis personajes favoritos de toda la saga.
A simple vista, Isaiah es un hombre súper divertido, carismático, coqueto y con una sonrisa siempre en el rostro; de esos personajes que constantemente buscan contagiar felicidad a los demás. Sin embargo, cuando la historia profundiza en su pasado y descubres el trauma que vivió de niño, el panorama cambia por completo. Saber la carga tan pesada que llevó desde pequeño intentando hacer sonreír a los suyos para evitarles la tristeza me conmovió a un nivel que no se imaginan . Me dio muchísimo sentimiento ver la nobleza tan grande que guarda en su interior, sin dejar de lado el amor incondicional que siente por su familia, especialmente por su hermano y su sobrino.
Además, su dinámica con los demás es brillante: sus interacciones con sus amigos más cercanos y con Monty, el entrenador, le dan muchísima vida al libro. Pero lo mejor de todo es su comportamiento con Kennedy. Isaiah estuvo completamente enamorado de ella desde el primer segundo en que la vio. Por eso, aunque el matrimonio en Las Vegas ocurrió por un error de borrachera, él vio en ese "accidente" la oportunidad perfecta para intentar conquistarla de verdad,aunque no la tuvo para nada fácil! .
El desarrollo de la pareja es fascinante porque son dos mundos que chocan de frente:
Kennedy es una mujer sumamente seria, profesional y reservada. Como nunca recibió suficiente afecto o apoyo (ni siquiera de su propia familia), le cuesta confiar en las personas y abrirse emocionalmente.
Isaiah, en cambio, es pura calidez, expresividad y cariño.
Ver cómo dos personalidades tan opuestas colisionan al principio y cómo, poco a poco, van entrelazando sus vidas para construir algo sólido y sanador, fue sencillamente hermoso. Amo profundamente cómo evolucionan juntos.
On the other hand, I have to talk about Isaiah Rhodes! He easily became one of my favorite characters in the entire series.
At first glance, Isaiah is a super fun, charismatic, flirtatious man with a constant smile on his face; one of those characters who is always trying to spread happiness to others. However, when the story delves into his past and you discover the trauma he experienced as a child, the whole picture changes. Learning about the heavy burden he carried from a young age trying to make those around him smile to spare them sadness moved me more than you can imagine . It touched me deeply to see the incredible nobility inside him, not to mention the unconditional love he feels for his family, especially his brother and nephew.
Plus, his dynamic with others is brilliant: his interactions with his closest friends and with Monty, the coach, bring so much life to the book. But best of all is his behavior toward Kennedy. Isaiah was completely in love with her from the very first second he saw her. So, even though the marriage in Las Vegas happened because of a drunk mistake, he saw that "accident" as the perfect opportunity to try to truly win her over,even though it wasn't easy for him at all
The couple's development is fascinating because they are two worlds colliding head on
Kennedy is an extremely serious, professional, and reserved woman. Since she never received enough affection or support not even from her own family, she finds it hard to trust people and open up emotionally.
Isaiah, on the other hand, is pure warmth, expressiveness, and affection.
Seeing how two such opposite personalities collide at first and how, step by step, they intertwine their lives to build something solid and healing, was simply beautiful. I deeply love how they evolve together.
A medida que la lectura avanza y te adentras en las emociones de ambos, ver cómo enfrentan y van sanando sus propios traumas de forma gradual es sumamente conmovedor. Aunque al principio el matrimonio parecía un error garrafal, con el paso de los días se dan cuenta de que simplemente no pueden estar separados. Ver a Kennedy quien tenía tantas barreras emocionales darse cuenta de lo que siente por Isaiah, buscar su compañía y no querer dejarlo solo, es uno de los puntos más hermosos de la evolución de su romance.
Por otro lado, me dolió muchísimo ver por todo lo que tuvo que pasar Kennedy en su trabajo. Soportar a un jefe déspota que constantemente la atormentaba, le asignaba tareas denigrantes y minimizaba sus logros solo por discriminación, refleja una triste realidad. Sin embargo, lo que me inspiró fue que Kennedy jamás bajó la cabeza. Pese a la rabia y la impotencia, decidió guardarse las palabras y pedirle a Isaiah que no interviniera, aguantando firme con la mirada puesta en sus metas.
Ella estaba esperando pacientemente su oportunidad, la cual finalmente llega con una oferta en San Francisco para ocupar el puesto que siempre mereció en otro equipo. Pero lo más increíble de esta etapa y algo que amo profundamente del libro es cómo manejan sus metas sin caer en la toxicidad.
En ningún momento Isaiah le dijo "no te vayas" ni intentó cortarle las alas a sus oportunidades, ni Kennedy le pidió a él que dejara su sueño de seguir jugando con su equipo. La historia demuestra un romance verdaderamente sano, maduro y respetuoso, donde ambos se apoyan incondicionalmente para cumplir sus metas profesionales sin exigirle al otro que renuncie a sus propios sueños para estar juntos.
As the reading progresses and you delve into their emotions, seeing how they face and gradually heal their own traumas is incredibly moving. Although at first the marriage seemed like a huge mistake, as the days go by they realize that they simply cannot be apart. Seeing Kennedy who had so many emotional barriers realize what she feels for Isaiah, seek his company, and not want to leave him alone, is one of the most beautiful points in the evolution of their romance.
On the other hand, it hurt me deeply to see everything Kennedy had to go through at work. Enduring a tyrannical boss who constantly tormented her, assigned her degrading tasks, and minimized her achievements purely out of discrimination reflects a sad reality. However, what inspired me was that Kennedy never hung her head. Despite the rage and helplessness, she decided to keep her words to herself and asked Isaiah not to intervene, standing firm with her eyes set on her goals.
She was patiently waiting for her opportunity, which finally comes with an offer in San Francisco to take the position she always deserved on another team. But the most incredible thing about this phase and something I deeply love about the book is how they handle their goals without falling into toxicity.
At no point did Isaiah tell her "don't go" or try to clip her wings, nor did Kennedy ask him to give up his dream of continuing to play for his team. The story demonstrates a truly healthy, mature, and respectful romance where both support each other unconditionally to achieve their professional goals without demanding that the other give up their own dreams just to stay together.
De verdad, Play Along se ha convertido en uno de los mejores libros que he leído. Toda la saga de Windy City me tiene fascinada y en cada entrega encuentro algo hermoso, pero la historia de Kennedy tocó una fibra muy especial en mí.
Como estudiante de fisioterapia, comprender de cerca su entorno laboral me hizo ver que en el futuro yo también enfrentaré mis propios obstáculos. Sin embargo, su personaje me inspira profundamente a no bajarle la cabeza a nadie, a mantenerme enfocada en mis metas y a recordar que todo se logra paso a paso. No será de la noche a la mañana, pero con esfuerzo y convicción los sueños se alcanzan.
Tanto Kennedy como Isaiah son personajes motivadores de los que se puede aprender muchísimo. Amo que Liz Tomforde nos regale historias dentro del sports romance que sean completamente sanas, sin esa toxicidad tan común en otros libros. Era justo la lectura positiva y reconfortante que necesitaba.
Honestly, Play Along has become one of the best books I've ever read. The entire Windy City series has me fascinated, and in every installment I find something beautiful, but Kennedy's story touched a very special chord in me.
As a physical therapy student, understanding her workplace environment up close made me realize that in the future I will also face my own obstacles. However, her character deeply inspires me never to hang my head for anyone, to stay focused on my goals, and to remember that everything is achieved step by step. It won't happen overnight, but with effort and conviction, dreams are reached.
Both Kennedy and Isaiah are motivating characters you can learn so much from. I love that Liz Tomforde gives us stories within sports romance that are completely healthy, without the toxicity that is so common in other books. It was just the positive, comforting read I needed.
