After wrapping up farm chores at the ranch, I let John greeting Abigail before heading inside for dinner. Joining Abigail, Jack, and Uncle at the dining table, I let John enjoying a hearty family meal to reward his hard work before quietly stepping back outside into the evening air.
After wrapping up several routine chores around the ranch, I paused to look over at Abigail before heading off to inspect the rest of the property. I walked up to greet her, curious to see how she would react, where John addressed her warmly as Mrs. Marston.
She responded in a pleasant tone, exchanging a brief, friendly word before turning back toward the house to tend to her daily routines.
With the clock approaching four in the afternoon and my physical labor finished for the day, I headed inside to check if any food was available. Inside the house, I found Abigail preparing spices for the upcoming evening meal rather than working on her crochet.
Approaching the dining table, I saw that a hot family dinner had been laid out on the wooden dining table, ready for everyone to sit down and eat.
As I walked over to take my seat, Uncle ambled into the house through the side entrance, clearly drawn by the smell of hot food. I sat down at the table as the rest of the family gathered around to join me.
After spending the entire day completing heavy labor across the ranch, sitting down to a hot meal felt like a well-earned reward. Everyone began digging in immediately without waiting for me to take the first bite, prompting me to catch up.
Despite starting a moment late, John finished his plate quickly while listening to the quiet chatter around the room.
Uncle interjected between bites, joking that eating too much of Abigail's rich cooking would make him gain weight.
Once I finished my portion, I slid my chair back from the table to leave the rest of the family to enjoy their dinner in peace.
Leaving them to finish their conversation around the table, I walked back out into the open ranch yard to enjoy the quiet evening.
