Why did we use to beat children with brutality, for millennia, since we evolved into modern day humans? What were we afraid of?

In a lot of religions, children are seen as evil, born sinful or wrong in some sense. The job of the parent is to make the child conform and obey. Even though this can be achieved by peaceful means humans choose the violent path since the beginning of history. Maybe it was easier, maybe it was the only method at the time.

They wanted to make them obey, but even submissive children were beaten. So I ask myself what do these people fear from the small and fragile children. Was it individualism, was it, success? Seeing your children be a lot more successful than you brings back all the painful memories of how you were destroyed by your parents?

Was it the love and connection that children instinctively desire? Fearing to open yourself to an honest relationship when maybe you had none until then, makes you recoil and feel attacked by the child? When the child wants to love you and you are emotionally damaged, it can seem that he is actually harassing you, and you hit him in self-defense.

Does he ask too many questions? We all know that children ask a lot of questions because they feel a need to know about the world, curiosity, this is in all of us. Until we face the mandatory school system. In there we are forced to learn day and night, information, information, information. Even if we don't like it, even if we hate it. Seeing your child asking questions reminds you of the suffering you endured when not knowing things was punished by your teachers. You were ridiculed, you felt shame and you don't want to feel that anymore. What do you do? you say: Stop asking so many questions! Go to your room.

All this brutality aimed at children persisted for thousands of years. Slowly, very slowly diminishing in intensity as the centuries went. Every generation abused their children a little less. This made the world change, from barbarians that sacrificed people by the thousands to bring rain, to the slave societies, to the beginning of the age of reason to the industrial revolution the modern world and now, now we have a chance. We can accelerate the process with which the world turns into the light. The Romans didn't know that not beating children will make their society flourish even more. The Mayans didn't know that. That knowledge was absent.

We now know that if you want to live into the future when in old age, you have to raise your children peacefully. Peaceful parent today and your children will give you the biggest gift one can have. You will see the future, you will live it because the world will evolve so much faster thanks to your kindness and love. You said: the violence ends here, no more useless suffering!
