Since the first homo something began to be conscious, he started to fear death. In his fear he desired immortality.
Inventing gods and magic, he could not stop the wheel of the world, only through his children he could live on. So it happened for thousands and thousands of years until one day 6 august 1991.
What began then was a never seen transformation of the world. Reality began to reproduced in a new digital reality, a world without rules or boundaries that could engulf everything, even our minds. As the so called internet grew, more and more people, uploaded more and more information, in the beginning the most important and essential, today the most trivial. The average man interacts with this Internet 3 hours per day, leading to a total of aprox. 1000 hours per year. This whole time everyone thinks that they don't do something special, they look at movies, they shop, read, post content, comment, upload vacation pictures, debate, disagree with strangers, promote themselves, create art, poetry, learn history, mathematics, explore the earth, save information, distribute memes and so on. What they are actually doing, is making a digital clone, of themselves. There is enough information today about a random teenager on the internet to make an accurate prediction of his behavior without knowing him. This data is immortal, the more you spend on the internet the better "quality" your clone will be.
This problem arose on the Internet some time ago when Facebook stated in it's terms of use that the information you upload is their property. People were unhappy, debates took place. How can a company own your digital mind? or part of it. Something was wrong and people knew it at an instinctual level. How could Facebook one day own a sentient digital you. Your smile, personality, food preferences and philosophy?
There will come a time when your grandchildren watching you on the death bed, will not say that you are dying , they will say grandpa/grandma finished uploading on the internet today. Let's hope that that day will not have a copyright on you.
