Jonathan used to be a dancer - #freewrite - Prompt - 'Stinking Breath'
Jonathan was looking at the notice board in the community center looking for something of interest
He had recently had a hard time and was struggling to motivate himself to getting things done. He had gone to the community center today because he had felt quite lonely and thought he may find someone to have a cup of tea with and a chat.
He saw an Ad for a seniors dance troupe.
Jonathan used to be a dancer in the past, he could certainly smooth his way across a Dance Floor and was always a hit with the Ladies. Perhaps he should give it a go.
Jonathan remembered it was outside of the towns Dance Hall that he first met Gertrude. Gertrude was a very loving and slender thing and he fell in love straight away.
Gertrude came home with him that night and they had shared a magnificent life together for the past 15 years.
Jonathan remembers that at the time, at his age, he would never find a companion again.
His wife had passed away when they were quite young and Jonathan had taken a lot to get over that. He did not deal well with matters of the heart and struggled at the best of time.
Gertrude had been a blessing; they both had a love for long walks, along the beach and in the mountains. They both loved each other unconditionally and really enjoyed spending time in each other’s company.
Gertrude would always snuggle up on the couch when Jonathan watched the football and didn’t mind when Jonathan Jumped up shouting Hoorah when his team scored goals.
Unfortunately, like his wife, Gertrude passed away, Heart failure they said.
Jonathan was devastated and had spent the past six months isolated in his home, not sure how he was going to carry on.
Sheryl saw Jonathan at the notice Board. Sheryl was a long term friend of Jonathan and knew that Gertrude had passed away.
She sat down with Jonathan over a cup of tea and they talked about Gertrude.
Jonathan was saying how much he missed her and that he even missed her stinking breath, especially after she had been snuffling in the neighbors yard.
Sheryl, put her hand on Jonathan's and said.
*Now that Gertrude has gone, I was talking to Fred and he said that Peters’ Geraldine has just had a litter and maybe you would like one of the pups, especially since you have kept all of Gertrude’s things. *
