Among the birds that feed on fish, kingfishers certainly stand out. In wetlands you can find the five species that occur in South America. There is a great abundance of these birds there in the dry season due to the large number of fish. It is a very rich ecosystem in every way. The video below was made on my last trip over there now in June. Who's shooting is a client of mine, but of course I also took some pictures :-)

Generally kingfishers are very skittish birds, do not allow approach if you arrive on foot. But as with many other birds, if you can approach slowly by car or boat, you'll certainly be able to get much closer. This is what happened in this case, when we use a boat with electric motor (quiet) to get very close.

We saw the whole sequence: this kingfisher plunged into the river and took this pacuzinho. The fish was obviously too wide to fit in your throat. First she killed the pacu with repeated blows against the branch (you can see the scales) and then tried to swallow. I thought I was going to give the play the fish in water purchases piranhas eat, but then she simply folded the fish in half and swallowed so! Amazing.
