Before visiting Thailand, I've always known how vibrant their art scene is. So when I went there back in April, I've been very observant of both the street art and the fine art scene. Aside from architecture and sculptures, looking into street art is one of the ways to see a place's culture as well.
Lol that "Sawasdee" is so cute. I was looking for a specific tag that screams "This is Thailand!!!" and this is what I got.
I'm an idiot for not focusing this properly. :P
Some of the stories that I got with friends that do street art (graffiti and tagging) is that they have to be really careful and fast with doing it cos in our city, police are everywhere. I don't know if Thai police are always on the lookout for these artists but it would be interesting to hear their stories.
I was expecting something like a tag in Thai alphabet but what I've seen so far was mostly in Latin alphabet. Or they are probably in Thai and I just didn't recognize it lol.
We hated that face so much. It was basically everywhere and we noticed his face also has the most markings on. I guess Thai people hate him as well. Hahaha.
What I've noticed in Phuket is that the tags were mostly recognizable in every block. Like, I would see the same ones often.
I also noticed that there wasn't any political statements on the walls (not that I have seen or recognized). Or there might be but they aren't as obvious as a huge anti government statement lol. They might be hiding it in symbols or most of them are probably just satisfied haha.
Here in our city, it's pretty much almost everywhere.
I'm always gonna be impressed with how these artists do their tags. With the need for speed, the penmanship still always look good.
It's nice to see a glimpse of other people's culture. How they express their identity and their ideas in the street are always unique in different places. I wish I have seen more of the art scene in Thailand but I was only there in limited time and places. :P
