The Invitational is our bi-weekly, super-duper, writing contest. It is where we match quills and draw blood all for the sake of the craft. We all know a 'friendly' competition never hurts anyone, much, especially when it can be used as a platform to improve your writing. 🙌

Rushing to stock last minute supplies before heading to work, I made a quick stop at the grocers. That's me, Joel Klain, the procrastinator, both short and long term. Standing in the checkout line, my eyes immediately flew to the tabloid headline near the counter: Joella Klain's newest #1 best-seller. I quickly looked away pretending to search for pocket change to complete my purchase.

Judy flinched as the door burst open, she ran up the stairs trying to locate a good hiding spot. She didn't have any weapons on her and fighting Pat was like trying to pour water into a river. She heard Pat run up the stairs after her, breathing heavily and stomping his foot.

The shackles hurt my wrists, my body faints from the fatigue of being hung. Gravity wants to dislocate my shoulders, but I resist, I want to live, to get out of this situation in which life has put me. I still don't know why, but here I am accompanied by these terrible pains.

The cousin to the action genre! It felt fitting that our sequel prompt followed suit in the blockbuster summer season. Again folks, we judge the contest based on how closely you adhere to the genre. If there are two works, and one is better written than the other, but the other follows the prompt to a T - guess who will win? 🙃 So give us your best-written thriller! And good luck to you all!
