People think that by voting they are helping to determine who the next president will be, but that is not how the king makers and the puppets in Washington view the voting process. People sometimes say that our votes are not even counted, but the majority actually are counted, they just don't play much of a role in the election. Instead they are used to gauge the public opinion, they want to see what you are willing to put up with and they are also used to divide the people. If you continue to vote for the same two corporate mouthpieces that you always do, then we will never see meaningful change unless another country forces it on us, like the state sponsored human rights abuses against children that will hopefully end in the US, due to global pressure.
People sometimes say that voting for an independent is throwing your vote away, but that is the furthest from the truth, if you find someone that happens to share your beliefs and you vote for him, then in the next election he along with others that share those beliefs will have more political support which translates into money and the ability to force elected officials to bend a little. Within four years you can turn a fringe idea into a hot political topic that both candidates are calling their own.
