Plitvice lakes are the largest and oldest national park in my beautiful Croatia. It was declared a national park in 1949. It contains 16 named and many smaller lakes.
The Plitvice Lakes system ends with the imposing Sastavci waterfalls, at the foot of which the Korana river begins.

The Plitvice Lakes received international recognition on October 26, 1979, by being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Various cultural and historical sights can be seen in the area of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. They bear witness to the origin and development of this region. Frequent wars are the reason that this landmark of ours has not been preserved to the extent that it should be preserved and displayed.
