I have long had a fascination for glass in all it's various creative forms. I even made and sold stained glass commissions for a while. But ultimately I found it a bit limited as a medium.
More recently I've toyed with the idea of learning how to create with fused glass but I haven't gotten around to persuing it. It's not something I'd be able to do at home without purchasing a kiln which is a bit beyond my means currently.
However, whenever I'm out and about I'm always on the look out for good examples and this window was something I spotted on one of our weekend visits to a National Trust Property.
In the gardens at Standen House, Sussex there is a bothy nestled amongst the trees. It is a small folly-like building created by designer and maker Will Shannon.
It is is part of the National Trust鈥檚 Contemporary Arts Programme and was built using the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement of working with local materials using traditional handcrafted skills.
Following these principles this colourful window was created using handmade glass.
Designer Will Shannon describes the bothy as
a space to shelter, somewhere for a wanderer to rest, a gardener to shelter in or an artist to draw.
