Yep. For sure.

I traced my family history (my mum's side) back to 1451 Cornwall...In the process I found out about the convicts. The female one went to trial for larceny with another female. We assume a couple of maids who stole from their employer. Both got death penalities and were held on hulks (prison ships) in England. For some reason their sentences were commuted to transportation., An appeal maybe?That's when they were split up. I followed my ancestor.

I've seen the courts and shipping documents and all...Amazing stuff really.

I've also been to Port Arthur. It would have been the most brutal of places. Imagine being a woman in there. It must have been terrible.

Oh well, that's part of life I guess and if you ask any Australian who has convict history, like me, you'll hear nothing but pride in their voices when they speak of their ancestors.
