Hive is Blog pages with a threaded discussion below each post as we are using here but its not designed for communities as discussion forums are as they have sub topics so that there are multiple ongoing conversations happening as they are within their sub group of posts. Most hive projects are relying on Discord which is just a busy chat room unless they have implemented the forum feature.

For examples , just look at how many online communities use forums for discussion , I see you make guitars and so here is a Musical Instrument Makers Forum , http://www.mimf.com/phpbb

as you can see, there are sub groups for each topic

These type of forums are where the best discussions happen online as they offer multiple places to post depending on the subtopic within the communities

as for a different design , If reddit would add more tabs to post within each subreddit it would allow much better communication as there would be multiple places to post within each subreddit

Basically we need more horizontal communication instead of all posts competing for views on the same page which would reduce the issue with downvotes and posts not being seen as they are pushed off the page never to be seen again thus no ongoing communication can happen.
