As an avid hiker and traveler, I have had the privilege of exploring some of the most beautiful trails around the world. While popular hiking destinations like the Grand Canyon and Machu Picchu are certainly breathtaking, there is something special about discovering hidden gems on the trails. Here are some of my favorite hiking destinations that are lesser-known but equally stunning:
Located on the island of Lombok, Mount Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia. The trek to the summit is challenging but the views are absolutely worth it. From the top, you can see the crater lake, the neighboring island of Bali, and even the Gili Islands.
The Dolomites are a mountain range in northeastern Italy that are known for their distinctive jagged peaks. The trails here are diverse, ranging from easy strolls through alpine meadows to challenging climbs up steep rock faces. The scenery is truly breathtaking, with stunning views of the surrounding valleys and lakes.
The Haute Route is a classic trek that takes you through the heart of the Alps, from Chamonix in France to Zermatt in Switzerland. The trail passes through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world, including the Mont Blanc massif and the Matterhorn. The trek is challenging but the rewards are immense.
Located in Patagonia, Torres del Paine is a national park that is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. The trails here take you through glacial valleys, past turquoise lakes, and up to the iconic granite spires that give the park its name. The trek is challenging but the scenery is absolutely worth it.
The Simien Mountains are a range of peaks in northern Ethiopia that are home to some of the most unique wildlife in the world, including the Ethiopian wolf and the gelada baboon. The trails here take you through dramatic landscapes of jagged peaks, deep gorges, and high plateaus. The trek is challenging but the wildlife and scenery are truly unforgettable.
These are just a few of my favorite hiking destinations around the world. While they may be lesser-known, they are truly hidden gems that are worth exploring. So grab your hiking boots and get ready to discover some of the most beautiful trails on the planet.
